VAX V 044 Cadence

Advantages: Inexpensive and works well, once repaired
Disadvantages: Filter seal poorly designed

...This cordless handheld can work well, but someone somewhere made a mistake with the design of the re-usable filter, the rubber seal is too small & inflexible so a lot of the the dust and debris is drawn round the side [you can see this as the nose is perspex] and out into the room. Its a real shame. Vax replaced mine [excellent customer service!] but sent annother with the same fault. Tip! if you have this problem cut a thin strip of that bubbly 'non slip mat' and evo-stick it to the edge of the filter seal, then after 12 hours to dry really well rub talc round the seal and it will then fit snugly and your vax will work well.... Advantages: Powerful machine if you get it to work.
Disadvantages: Terrible after sales service.

...I bought this machine in good faith, thinking that Vax is all about quality. The machine worked wonderfully.. for about five minutes. Loss of suction power, due to a cut-out mechanism that is supposed to kick in when the machine is too warm (supposedly after several months of use before the filter is changed.) However, whenever I cleaned the filter, it was a question of minutes before it was clogged again. Thinking that this was a faulty model I tried to have it replaced but the shop passed the problem onto the producers (do NOT buy any Vax machines from Argos, whatever you do!!) I then had the machine sent to Vax for repair. This whole process took about three weeks. They returned it saying that Filter was full. It wasn't. Calling them again seemed useless. Advantages: light weight, easy to use great for little spills and on the moment spots
Disadvantages: not for deep cleaning or older marks.

...On my "other" carpet cleaner breaking down we were in dire need to get new one as we had just had some building work done and are the proud owners of 5 children. We bought the vax and was really dismayed at the preformance. it is definately not for you if you need something to do a deep cleaning job. the spots did not budge I had to get down on my hands and knees with a scrubbing brush. the little brush basically spreads the dirt from one side to the next. On the plus side it is a light weight very easy to use machine if you have a low maintence clean up. great for sucking up spills but does not work on those tougher stains and marks.... Read review
