"VAX Swift"

I paid £50 for this Vax upright and was a bit wary as it was on special offer at B&Q.

When I got it home I realised that it may have been on special offer as it is only part assembled. Hence the tiny box that it comes in.

The instructions to assemble it weren't very clear but with perseverence it was manageable.

The first time that I hoovered a carpet with it I couldn't believe the sucking power of this mighty machine. It was extremely hard to manouvre and felt as if it was going to suck up my carpets! It has since got a little easier to use on pile carpets. It is 1500 watts, pretty powerful for an upright and enough to suck up your socks.

It is amazing on hard floors. I use it on laminate and thermoplastic tiles aswell as carpets, it really does get to the edges.

If you are familiar with other Vax products, you will know that they are not the easiest of machines to change attachments on. They are however very cleverly designed and changing the attachments does get easier as you get used to using it. I wouldn't say that this is a problem, they are just different and human beings don't tend to adapt too well to change.

Emptying the cylinder is really easy and as it has a clear wall, you can see when it is full.

It is light weight, has a permanent filter, all tools are attached to machine. It has the usual brushes and extensions.

I would prefer a longer cable, as with any appliance, so that I could hoover the whole house without unplugging from room to room! It will do the stairs without unplugging though, which to me is very important.

CHANGING THE BELT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This machine must be at least two years old now, probably a bit more. It has hoovered up years worth of hair, pencils, hair grips, coins, socks and everything else you can imagine.
The belt needed changing today after hoovering up a scarf which wrapped around the brush and burned the belt through!
Five philips screws allow access to the belt via a plate. The screws are magnetic, so there is little chance of losing them. Replacing the belt is simple but do make sure that the electricity supply to the machine is disconnected.
Slip the new belt around the metal pin and around the brushes.
Replace screws and plate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase and the fact that I don't have to spend any more money on bags or filters ever again.

UPDATE
~~~~~~~
It is a couple of years now since I purchased this vacuum cleaner, maybe three + even. There are absolutely no problems with it at all.
In fact, the brushes have worn ever so slightly which makes it a lot easier to use on the long pile carpets. This doesn't seem to have had any detrimental affect on the use on hard floors either.
The re-usable filter is exactly what it says it is, and is like new condition apart from a bit of dust of course.
I would not hesitate reccomend this model if is still available for sale anywhere, or as a second hand machine even.
I guess it needs a 6 star rating now, but there isn't one.
    Hi There!! Glad to hear that you are happy with your machine. Didn't realise B&Q sold domestic appliances. You definately got a bargain. GavMan.
