To give you some background on the conditions our Vax works in, we have three dogs, three rats, and a 19 month old who is in to everything. We have more than our fair share of "accidents" on a day to day basis.
We used to hire a Rug Doctor to clean our carpets, but with the cost it could only really be done twice a year, and with all the wear on the carpet it needed to be done more often. When we saw this Vax for sale, it seemed like an answer to our prayers, it was fairly low cost, the cleaning solution wasn't that dear, and we could use it to spot clean when necessary.
Its first big trial was cleaning our old living room (25 foor by 14 foot) just before we moved house, after one of the dogs was ill overnight. OK, the rooms large, but i needed to refill and empty the tanks 5 times to clean it, , and on the heavier stained areas it didn't really work that well, I had to use the hand tool to clean it.
But clean it it did. The flat was inspected later that day, and no odour or evidence of the night remained.it did indeed clean the carpet, and saved us the hire costs. We clean with it roughly twice a month, and although the carpets don't look dirty, its amazing what the Vax can pick up.
Since then it has coped with our daughters experiments with food and drink, painting, coffee, and the general mess of 3 dogs charging in from the garden on a muddy day. It can take some time to clean, but the Vax itself is not really any heavier than the average hoover, and about the same effort to use.
If you have tough stains, I would advise you to pre-treat with the hand tool first, and to use the pet cleaner rather than the normal. I haven't noticed any particular difference in cleaning power, but the odour neutralizer in the pet version is a lot better.
