Normal books are so 20th century, the new way for babies to read is with interactive books that play music, lights up and make sounds! The V-Tech Peek a boo book is one of these such books and brings 6 of the most classic nursery rhymes to life.

V-Tech call this book ,"a rhyming adventure of every page. You can learn traditional nursery rhymes in a fun and exciting way. A friendly voice helps baby sing along with the rhymes while brightly coloured manipulative buttons on each page stimulate their senses. It encourages motor skills and language development."

The book itself is made of thick plastic and has actual pages that you turn. The spine of the book is the body of a butterfly and when the pages are open they resemble the butterflies wings so already this book has a really cute look to it. The butterfly has a face on it and this part of the book lights up. I bought the pink version of the book as I have a little girl but I believe there are boy friendly versions of this too.

The front page has Peek-A-Boo written on it and has pictures of all the different nursery rhymes in this book. There is also a button with a fairy princess on it which speaks when you press it. There are 6 nursery rhymes included in this book. They are:

Hey, Diddle, Diddle
Humpty Dumpty
Hickory, Dickory, Dock
Twinkle Twinkle Little star
Rock-A-Bye, Baby
Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Each nursery rhyme takes up one page of this book. What I like is that the nursery rhyme is written on the page so your baby can see the words and then associate them to the spoken words and music. I think this really aids reading and helps them to become familiar to every day words and songs. There is also a little button on each page that coordinates with the nursery rhyme. For example on the Humpty Dumpty page there is an egg shaped Humpty that you can move up and down that will start the nursery rhyme music. The voice also asks things like where is Humpty Dumpty so the book becomes interactive as well as your baby learns to find the characters that the book is talking about. Old MacDonald is my favourite page as it has a little barn door that you move from side to side that shows a cow in one side saying Moo and a pig in the other saying oink. The sound effects are also included so we also learn about farmyard sounds which babies always like to hear and repeat.

This book is wonderful and bright, colourful and inviting. Like I've said above it is from V-Tech and they recommend it for babies aged 3 to 24 months which I would probably agree with. I bought mine for about £12 from Mothercare.
