My dear husband said that if I was to sell my car I could have one for my 30th birthday, so I put my car on eBay and sold it straight away, then we had a look in the free ads and came across a bug and phoned the guy immediately and went straight up there.
We made our way to Cardiff and law and behold we got lost (typical husband) by this time it was getting really late and concerned that the bloke might not appreciate us going to see it so late, but he was a very nice and agreed to meet us in a shopping park.
We didn’t wait too long when we heard a loud noise coming from the distance, it was music to my ears, as it came closer I could see it, it was MY BUG .
I couldn’t have been more thrilled, it was metallic blue and in perfect condition -which is very rare for a 1969 beetle, it had been well looked after, now I am not an expert to say the least but was advised previously before hand by a friend of ours (who has a beetle) that if the body underneath was rusty then stay away, and other things too.
After good examination and a test drive- which I have to say was hard, because if you haven’t driven an old car before (without power steering) then it is hard. We took the baby home, or should I say my husband drove it as I wasn’t used to driving it yet.
We woke up next day and was really excited at the thought of a bug was sitting in my drive.
My car has:
Alloy wheels 1.2 litre engine Recaro seats. It has carpets . Lowered suspension. Zoom tube (exhaust)
There isn’t much you can say anything much about it other than it has no rust and it purrrrrrrrs like a kitten a very large one lol.
Bad points
The only downfall I have with it is that it has no seatbelts in the back, so I couldn’t travel with kids at all, which is something I am planning on doing in the next few months, so in the meantime my husband has been driving it to work and I have at to have courtesy shit car (due to my car accident) instead.
Good points.
Are that is very cheap on petrol, its is tax exempt and only costs me £100 a year insurance.
I am now looking forward to the next VW festival in Margam park in August and this time I will be taking my own little cherub with me, My little Bluebell.
Advantages: Great fun, a classic worth experiencing Disadvantages: Needs maintenance, not easy to use as a daily driver
...I wouldn't recommend a classic volkswagen to someone who doesn't know or good mechanic or works on cars themselves as they do need constant maintenance, but parts are good value and readily available. I defied everyone who said you couldnt run a vw beetle as an everyday car, I frequently drove 200 mile journeys and she ran like a dream at 70mph. It taught me a lot about driving i now feel much more competent as you have to have very good observations ...

Advantages: MADE TO MEASURE Disadvantages: Long way from home
I come from both england and africa i have recently just come back and me and a friend have bought two 70's beetles for resail in the uk.I live in the south west and want to know where is the nearest port to import to.
I also am trying to find out if classic beetle owners would prefer a car made to measure, for instance choice of coulors ,wheels etc maybe engine tunes that they could order to go straight to them when it arrives in the uk.?
pls ... ...question as these cars are for sale but not in the country yet on abfagunwa@yahoo.co.uk

Advantages: The stares from onlookers! Disadvantages: Typical Beetle oil leak
My boyfriend has owned a Beetle since may.
To begin with it was a rusted heap, which you could put your feet through it was so rusty, but a steal at £390!
A £1000 later and all fixed, but typical of a 72 car, it ran on oil. 2 Garage visits later and finally it runs (but misfires!)
The interior is amazing, confortable spring seats with leather covers, feet in the bonnet and Quarter lights provide the best air conditioning you ever need.
I'd say ...

Advantages: A whole new experience. Original (stand Out from the Crowd). Cost of replacement parts. Buy it only if you can live with it's older design features. Disadvantages: Fuel economy Driving Position Safety
The Volkswagen type 1 better known as the Beetle. A two door four seater car with the engine in the boot! The engine came in several sizes, the range included the 1200 1300 1500 and 1600. The most common engine was the 1300 which came in two versions depending on year of manufacture.
I’ve had three VWBeetles all of them 1300 versions (I did put a 1500 engine into the first Beetle I had). I fell in love with the shape of the car and I suppose that is why I perservered with them because looking back the cars were not particularly reliable(proably due to their age). Any major work on the engine was far easier with the engine removed from the car which, fortunately was a relatively simple task to do (the engine is fitted with four 17mm nuts to the gearbox).
The car is quite small inside, with two adults sat in the front your ...
