This is a revised review of the VW Gof Gti 1.8T that I have now had for three years. Hopefully you will find this review informative and helpful.
Reliability
My car has been serviced regularly and therefore reliability has been excellent over the three years. I have only had to replace superficial items such as the front tyres, a broken headlamp and a stolen badge (pesky kids).
Safety
The Golf Mark IV Gti has front and side airbags and has an NCAP Front and Side Impact rating of 4 stars. This is very good for a car which was effectively designed in the late 90?s as it is only in the last year or so that cars have begun to meet the 5 star requirement.
The new NCAP Pedestrian rating for the Golf IV is 2 stars which isn?t fantastic but then there are plenty of new cars that fail abysmally with this new rating ...
Advantages: Looks, Comfort, Value for Money, Reliability Disadvantages: Weight, Costs of Parts/Servicing
Golt GTI's are excellent cars and the 1.8t engine is very good. It's extremely reliable and easy to get parts for since many VAG cars share this engine. The car itself looks great espcecially the 3-door variant. I have owned one for over a year now and have had no problems with it and still enjoy driving it.
'ves :Excellent Car with great subtle looks, very comfortable on long and short journeys. Good deal of comforts, mine has recaro's and climate control which are both excellent. MPG isn't too bad for a turbo car. very tunable. Decent amount of rear passenger and boot space for a hatchback.
-'ves: Bit too heavy to be a "fast" car. Parts can be pretty expensive especially from the VW dealer. Handling doesn't feel great. ...
Advantages: Big boot, Good motorway cruise missile, suprised in how cheap parts are. Disadvantages: A bit thirsty, ride quality a bit soft. keep grouding on speed humps.
is quite good on the motorway, very quiet, smooth but it gets a bit wishy washy on the back roads. I do find that on the sport models the ride hight is low and i am forever scraping over speed humps and kerbs causing a bit of damage to the nappy under the engine which does come loose if you don't keep an eye on it, and is a part of the cars aerodynamics. So make sure it's got one before you buy. Also check the suspension bushes on high mileage one's this can be expensive and there is a lot of them on the passat.
The engine is a 1.8, 20 valve, Turbo charged unit which develops around 150bhp, its the same engine the Audi TT which runs at 225bhp. So the engine isn't under to much stress. The power is good, but i do find that it needs a bit of reving to get it goin ...
