After selling my G Plate 1.8 16V corrado for financial reasons. I was gutted and was adament on getting another one. In 2005 I sorted things out saw one that I just had to have and am now a proud owner of a Dolphin Grey Corrado 1.8 16V on a H plate 1991 with leather interior I put in after. Hmm ok ok Reveiw on Corrados well here goes:
Advantages: Great Looks, Sleek Style, head turner in the sence that people see the VW badge and think, "Huh whats that" Once lowered a touch not too much it handles amazingly, sticks to the road. Would advise Pirelis and no bigger than 205 55 17 wheels and rims as it looks weird and reduces the speed of the the at take off. There are a number of Corrados to choose from: the 1.8 16v, 2.0 litre, 2.8 VR6 or if you really want an experience the 3.2 VR6 Storm this is an animal. The difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0 is basically the top speed oh and fuel costs. Although the 1.8 is slighter smaller engine its 0-60 time is quicker, The VR6's are in a league of there own!! Don't disspare though as if you have the funds the smaller sized engines can also be modified for those of you that want to be stuck to the back of your seats. 0-60 times I beleive are as follows: 1.8 16v = between 8 to 8.2 secs, 2.0 L = between 8.3 to 8.6 secs, 2.8 VR6 = 6.1 secs and you ready for this? 3.2 VR6 Storm = between 3.8 to 4.2 secs.Top speeds: 1.8= between 140 to 160, 2.0 = between 160 to 165, 2.8 VR6 170 to 175 and 3.2 VR6 Storm 180 to 185. The corrado can be updated and upgraded with after market stuff which can be found through a number of stockists but I would advise to try ebay and checck feedback and comments of buyeres first before committing. Disadvantages: Noisy when first started, can be expensive to run, parts are hard to find through main dealers but can be found if you persist. 0-60 times could be better. Heavy Car for the smaller engines. thats about it really. As per Top Gears reveiw on the Car it is soon to be a classic car and when it is owner that have looked after their VW will be very very very happy with the market price once classed a classic car. Anyway my overall opinion of the Corrado is that if you have the money for up keep and to look after one then definatley buy one as it would be an investment for the future. Wehn buying always look for history and I would advise a HPI check too. Good luck and I hope this is a good enough review?
