Appearance:

This is my favourite VW Golf shape. The alloy wheels add to the overall look.

The interior is black but not too boring.

Handling:

The power steering is excellent and the car holds the road very well. Five gears and a 1.9 turbo deisel made this quick off the mark but no expensive to run.

The abs braking is generally good. They can on occasion judder in very wet or snowy conditions.
A friend has just bought a new Fiat Uno which has abs brakes which also occasionally judder in very wet conditions?

Parking the golf is relatively easy with the power steering and adjustable rear view mirrors.

Gadgets

The electric windows, cd, dvd, cassette, radio, lcd mpg etc display, blue lite dashboard are all more than I need but fine.

The sun flaps in the front come dow to rveal mirrors which are lite up when they are iuncovered - especially useful for the ladies.

When you unlock and lock the doors courtesy lights come on and the front doors have red lights which come on when they open.

I prefer central locking to remote central locking as the remote can unlock the car when you place the control in your pocket.

Open door, Audio temperature and fuel shortage warnings are a good idea as are the heated rear view windows which fold back, hydraulic bonnet stay, wheel locks and the whole of the headlamp clusters can be automatically dipped as can the rear view mirrors.

Internal fuel flap release button - good idea.

Comfort

Plenty of head and foot room even with 3 in the back. Seats are comfortable and easy to adjust. The air conditioning is great in the heat but does increase fuel consumption.

Economy

It does around 60 mpg on the motorway at 75mph and 40mpg around suburbia.

Safetry

4 Air bags and the doors weigh a ton as they are steel rod reinforced. Its a tank in disguise.

Luggage

The boot space is reasonable and can be enlarged by either folding down a single seat, the other two seats or all three rear seats. There are little eye pieces for hooks or ties to restrain items in the boot - good idea.

My only minor critcism is the tailgate needs a firm slam to close it else the luggage compartment warning light comes on.

Service Costs - 4 months time
Car Value Depreciation - 4 months time
