A few people have reported problems with their VW Polo, but I have had nothing but satisfaction from mine. I bought a second hand (1998 model) 1.4 CL about 12 months ago, and it has so far been everything you could ask of a small car in it's price range. The body work was, and still is in great condition. The engine always starts first time, and is very economical. For a car it's age the interior has hardly worn and the overall build quality is top-notch. The only thing I have had go wrong with it is a blown fuse for the 'Headlights on warning buzzer'! That took 2 minutes to replace. The ride is excellent compared to other cars in it's class such as the Clio, Saxo, 106 or Fiesta. Very smooth and pretty quiet even at very high speeds. While it's no 'GTI' there is enough acceleration to cope with most situations around town and I have been surprised at how well it copes with long haul motorway journeys. The interior is very comfortable and roomy and feels more like a Golf than a Polo. I can't think of a bad word to say about the car and would recommend it to anybody who wants a reliable, well made small car. It has been so easy to live with, I am surprised to have read the odd story from an unsatisfied owner. They must be the exceptions to the rule.

Advantages: Surprisingly powerful engine for a 1.4, economical and of course its a VW promising reliability and good residuals. Disadvantages: Too easy to utilise engine's power and spoil economy!
