Advantages: Hold there price well. Cheap to run. Reliable. Disadvantages: Dear to buy second hand. Hard to clock up fuel points!!
I have been blessed with the use of a company car and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I have always used the second car to potter back and forwards to work clocking up about 50 miles per week. It was a shock to my poor old beloved Sierra when I moved and it jumped up to over 150 miles a week. The Sierra was always at home pottering around the streets but felt out of place bombing down motorways at over 70mph.
I was starting ... ...offered the Polo to use, hence saving a fortune on what I was going to pay for a car. I had just moved and my bank account had been empty by Mr Estate agent and Mr Solicitor so I could use the money to pay my debt off .Yippee!! this is the first time since leaving school that I am completely debt free, except for my mother of a mortgage.

It was a shock to my poor old beloved Sierra when I moved and it jumped up to over 150 miles a week. The Sierra was always at home pottering around the streets but felt out of place bombing down motorways at over 70mph.
I was starting to look for something a bit newer when I was offered the Polo to use, hence saving a fortune on what I was going to pay for a car. I had just moved and my bank account had been empty by Mr Estate agent and Mr Solicitor so I could use the money to pay my debt off .Yippee!! this is the first time since leaving school that I am completely debt free, except for my mother of a mortgage.
The car costs me £90 a month which I pay as extra tax which includes private use and all fuel charges. This was a saving for me of over £60 per month plus any money I would spend on DIY maintenance and parts and any nasty work the garages would do for me. I should have been happy with saving this money but would I like the car?
The car is a 4 door VW Polo saloon in red, which my company bought new in September 2001. We run four Polo because of there really low running costs and reliability. We got them at the rock bottom price of £8500 per car, as they were cars, which were out of date models as the new range had come out a few weeks earlier. The dealer had four of them sitting around and offered us a huge discount and at that price we couldn’t miss them. I saw an advert the same week as I got to use the company car selling the older model still for £10 495 for the same model with delivery mileage.
The cars which sits on a Y Plate is powered by the 68BHP 1.9 Diesel engine. It’s a very slow creature with a 0-60 time of 15.8 seconds. The car is nippy around the doors, but the lacks the power to cruise at more than 85MPH unless you really force it to the maximum speed of 100mph. Our car which my wife uses is a 1.0 Corsa which is actually faster than the Polo up to about 80 mph. One thing I would recommend it your after a Diesel VW Polo is that you go for the Turbo Diesel model instead as I few the extra horsies will make the car better to drive.
The car is now nine months old and has covered 25000 miles. Its serviced every 10000 miles religiously as VW are very reliable as long as they are looked after. Services are not cheap and prices start from £157.95 for a minor service from a VW dealer. If you compare this to my Corsa which starts from £95 you can see the prices are not cheap. However when you come to sell the car , nothing will help more than a fully stamped service book from a VW dealer. During this time only the front tyres have need to be changed on my car, but the others have all had to have front brake pads and disks I would always recommend that you get decent tyres put on the car. Ideal the same tyres as VW fit on the car as standard. My company got 2 budget tyres put on from Mr Quick and nasty tyres and the car now handles like a pig when cornering in the wet.
The car is an SDI S model which has a very decent little spec on it.
Electric front windows Central locking. PAS Electric mirrors ABS braking Flip front radio and 10 disc multi changer in the boot. Driver and passenger front airbags
The interior trim is in black and grey and seems to be hard wearing showing no signs of wear at 25000 miles. The indictor switches look like big screwdrivers that have been stuck in the steering column. I like this because even with my big stoves I can hit the indictors switches without worrying about break it. Believed me when you have broken as many ford ones as me this is a big plus!. The instrument panel glows in a nice blue colour while the panel itself is different of most cars and is made up from several round gauges that I think are the same as its brother the VW Beetle.
The car came with a 3 year or 60000 miles warranty and a bodywork warranty of 12 years. Insurance for the car is 5-6 depending on the exact model. And the average miles to the gallon is approx.50mpg.
Things I don’t like about this car are the boot, which is higher than the engine bay making it hard to see out of the rear window. Also the space in the rear is really bad. I am six foot two and I need the seat all the way back to sit comfortably and because of this you would have problems seating a 5 year old behind me.
I am growing to like this car and if I get offered it cheaply enough when they come to sell it I would not hesitate it buying it. Even when it will have approx. 150000 miles when they sell it It certainly wont win any awards for beauty or speed….but then again I wont either!
Advantages: Comfort and safety Disadvantages: no CD Player!
I have finally got round to saving enough money to buy a new car. I have a T reg Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel before and it was excellent fuel economy. I drive 500 miles a week, just in a communte to work and back so fuel economy is something I take very seriously. My Pug could do up to 600 miles to a £40 tank of fuel.
I searched and searched and with a budget of around 5k, I was looking for a car that was durable (mechanically) and relatively fuel efficient ... ...VW because of the build quality and longevity of the mechanical parts. I had read that VW have a very good reputation (my sister has one too and swears by VW!)
I opted for diesel because of the long term fuel saving on the mileage.
Then I chose the Polo over the Lupo because it was slightly bigger and comfortable on long journeys. I felt safer in the Polo - I'm not sure why?! But I felt the Lupo would be lost on the motorway doing motorway speeds ...

Advantages: Small, economical and comfortable Disadvantages: Limited choice of interiors, and standard colours available
I bought my VW Polo SDi in November 2002; a new model was lauched in Summer 2002. I got the car after a brief period of research of similar cars on the market, and eventually went for this one because of VW's good reputation, and a good price deal that the dealer was offering at the time. I was also lucky to qualify for 1 years free insurance, which I think saved me over £500, as I was only 21 years old at the time.
The car looks good in silver, ... ...it was worth the extra £250 as the car will be more sellable when I come to sell it on. The car features front, passenger and side airbags; ABS; height adjustable driver seat; hidden storage space under the driver and passenger seats; electric windows; heated wing mirrors; central locking; air conditioning; climate control.
My car is a 3 door, with grey interior. It is also available as a 5 door, which would probably be more practical for those ...

Advantages: Easy to drive, economical Disadvantages: drab interior
We have had a VW Polo diesel for over 4 years now and can honestly say its been a great car, never let us down and still feels as new now even with almost 65000 miles on the clock. We had it originally in Germany and it was thrashed 100 miles a day up and down the autobahn at around 100 mph and yet still returned an average fuel consumption of 35-40 mpg. When we brought it back to the UK and consequently rarely exceeded 80mph the consumption leapt ... ...throughout and although the dealers have varied enormously in quality it hasn't mattered that much because there has never been much work to do.
When we bought the car we didn't even get a test drive and it was very much on the VW name. Inside the trim is practical rather than flash, the seats hardly look worn and the thick rubber mats have provided perfect protection to the carpets. We've taken the car to Italy and it performed fine climbing the ...

Advantages: Economical Disadvantages: Interior workmanship could be a bit better
I have been very happy with my Polo, the economy rate is unbelievable even though it is a 1.9l, there have been no problems and I am the biggest advocate of the VW brand. So reliable, our family has owned about 10 in the past 7 years and never a breakdown. The boots space is something to behold, I havne'y come accross a car of this size with such a large boot space. With the two seats that fold down there is more than enough space for our two bycycles.
