This is our family’s newest member, a 09 plate Scirocco 2.0TSI and I’m more than impressed. There was a long wait from the factory (around 12 weeks), but it’s arrived now, and wow!

We’ll start off with the looks of the car. I’d say it’s not to everyone’s taste, because it is so different, could well be a love it or hate it type of thing. It certainly get’s looks, while driving through a small town, a teenager pointed and stood with his mouth open as we cruised past.

The build quality is very good as well, as you’d expect with a German car. We previously had a VW Passat in it’s place, which of course had a good quality of build, but this is something else! As soon as you open the doors it’s just in a different league to the 02 plate Passat.

The interior has nice sports seats as you’d expect, but what I really like is the sports seats in the rear as well (note that it only has two rear seats). Inside of course it has a range of toys to play with, from watching DVDs to Sat Nav to voice controlled Bluetooth to iPod connectivity, you won’t run out of things to do while waiting around in the car

Performance, pretty much as you’d expect, pars with the new Golf GTi having the same engine and all. It may even slightly exceed it as it is slightly lighter. It’s around 200Bhp from the 2 litre turbo. There are also 3 modes, Comfort, Normal and Sport. The Sport mode stiffens up the suspension and sharpens up the steering and throttle, which is a nice touch. The comfort does the opposite of course.

You’d think that this engine would make it very loud, but when the windows are wound up it’s fairly quiet in the cabin (not completely, as this would take the fun out of it!). When the windows are down, the exhaust has a noticeable but subtle burble, which is a good thing. If you feel like being leery you could replace this though, little point I feel however.

The practicality is reasonably good, good boot space, good legroom in the front. The rear is a little cramped if you have the seats slid back, and would obviously be more awkward to get in with not having rear doors, if you need to get I the back a lot, you’d buy a 5 door golf GTi however.

I really can no longer see the Golf GTi 3 Door selling all that many now, this car is not much more expensive than it, and look at it compared to a Golf! Unless you really want that middle seat in the back, I see little need for that car to even exist.

In summary, it’s a fantastic car and would recommend it to anyone.
