I bought my VW Touran from new and have been very please with the car. We purchased the car because we needed a vehicle with lots of space for fetching and carrying equipment and the seven seat feature appealed to us.
In terms of reliability the car has been faultless; there have been no problems with the engine or build of the car. I have currently racked up 14,000 trouble free miles in less than a year.
The build of the car is to the usual high quality VW finish all the doors make the right noises when you close them. The body panels are well put together and the color coded bumpers, wing mirrors and door trims really finish the car off well.
The interior follows the same level of high quality finish (all though in my opinion it's a bit too grey). Regardless of this the quality of the materials makes up for the un-interesting color of the trim and seats. The car has loads of space inside; the driving position is a little high than a normal car which does afford better visibility. The vehicle has lots of places to hide things. I thing there are thirty receptacles of one sort or another in the car. From a drivers perspective the dash board is clean and well laid out (I love the blue and red dash lights at night). The standard features of air conditioning and cruise control are great features on this car and make long journeys really pleasant. The car is quite nippy for a diesel and nibble for its size, currently I get about 50mpg. Safety features such as ESP and ABS make you feel nice and safe when the road conditions turn a bit nasty. There appear to be air bags all over the place in the car, I'm more worried about suffocating as opposed to being wounded if I ever have a prang.
Space in the boot is good although I am not sure if it's as much as an estate car. However it does make up for it in height so you can get a large amount of stuff in your boot. The two extra seats that go to make this car a seven seater fit flush into the floor of the boot making the space very flat and tidy for loading. If you elect to have the seven seats available, setting them up is really easy and can be done in about three steps. Basically you just pull each seat back up into its upright position. The seat headrests are stowed in a recess in the boot simply click them in place on the seats. Finally move the cargo cover the to slots behind the extra seats. It only takes a minute to do.
I don't really have anything bad to say about this car. My only disappointment was recently a thief stole my GPS and broke the passenger window. The window was covered on my insurance but, cloth on the door was damaged and I was quoted £178 to replace it by VW.
Nice informative review. I currently have a Zafira but will probably go for a Touran next. Darren

When I reveiwed my Zafira I got plenty of feedback telling me how to do it better and my ratings improved. To me, one of the most important things about these 7 seaters is how the seats move about/get stowed and how easy it is to change the combinations. Can you put something in about how to change from estate mode to people carrier mode. Also maybe explain if cruise control is standard on this model - good spec if it is. If you do add to this and guestbook me I'll come back and re-rate.
