hello there i brought my vax 6131 last year, i just use it to clean my carpets, i will use it as my hover when the other one breaks down. It cost me £149.99. The vax cleans spills, sucks up water etc, washes carpaets, and hovers, so all in all a good all rounder. You replace the motor unit on top of this, attach a thin pipe that carries the hot water to the head and attach the vacuum tube to the machine at the bottom. I was looking only for a vacuum but this came recommended by the in-store scoring and also came with a good after care package in which you could sort out problems on line rather than having the chore of taking the item back to store Good Points; Fantastic cleaner, heavy duty, durable Bad Points; A bit bulky, a bit of a chore to change the pipes etc from vacuum to washer and then to wash out ... i had a vax wet and dry when i bought it i thought great i wont have to get on my hands and knees with the scrubbing brush and scrub the carpet it worked good for a couple of months then it wasnt washing as good as it first did and then its a real pain when you got to keep filling it up and if it gets to full of bubbles it starts coming out of the sides and then you have to wsh it out then wait for it to dry before you can put your hoover bag back ... The key buying criteria were: (i) power - needed to be able to suck up Australia from the UK (ii) hepa filters - allergies need dust supression (iii) cleaning as well as vacuuming - puppies poop and pee and not always where you would like (iv) price - I picked up ...
...to buy third party or VAX standard (internet best place to buy). Filters - 3 are needed and tend to get dirty with repeated carpet cleaning (one is dry use only). There are no spares supplied but are cheap to buy from VAX by mail order. Carpet cleaning fluid - there are lots of dedicated varieties from VAX including allergy relief, pet care, etc. Most seem to do the same job.
