I thought if I have to buy a new one every year then it would still be cheaper than buying a new dyson every 2 or 3 years. Pros: * Lightweight
* Not too noisy - compared to my previous Dyson and, latterly the Electrolux which all but burst my ear drums!
* Bagless
* Extendable hose reaches to the top of the curtains * Small - easier storage

Cons:
* Topples over very easily - I have given up using the flexible hose because inevitably the machine falls over in seconds and either hurts my 1yr old who's usually ... ...the Stair Stabiliser does not negate this problem on flat surfaces.
* When you click the position into upright before turning the machine off, eg if you are going to use the hose, it deposits a load of the waste it previously collected onto the floor.
* Has very quickly lost a degree of its suction and no longer picks things up that I would consider feasible to expect as it is supposed to be good even for pet hair. Eg, it cannot pick up poppy seeds ...

As I have only had this cleaner for a month, I can't comment on the longevity of this machine, but I believe if you look after it, keep the filters clean and don't try and get it to do something it's not designed to do, it should last a few years. AI bought this hoover after my trusty Henry gave up the ghost. I was looking for something cheap that would do what it says on the packet (so to speak). I only paid about £40 for this hoover & must say am very pleased with it, it has a 2000 watt motor so the suction is more than enough. The hose length is 1.5m with metal telescopic extension tubes, you can stretch it to hoover most of your stairs but I do find it easier to carry it up and place it ... ...cord. When my last Dyson Hoover died on me after 15 years as it has lasted so well I felt that it had to be a Dyson again. They are definitely worth the expense. I chose the Dyson DC23 because we wanted something more compact than the upright Dyson that we had previously. This model is very compact and the hose and wand winds around the base very well and easily. The power cable pulls out of the base and automatically rewinds on the press of a button. ... ...seem to do. The Dyson Hoover sucks up alot of stuff that other Hoovers leave behind. Once you have used a dyson, you will never use anything else. A Dyson Hoover is a good investment. Even though it is expensive, it pays for itself over and over as it last a lot longer than other Hoovers and requires no bags or replacement filters.
