I think some people know these are Space Bags. I first heard about these when I was living in America and thought they were a great invention. Not bags you take to Space but bags to give you space, hence the name or as you use a vacuum to seal the bags, Vacuum bags!
I first used some when I moved from America back to England. I had countless amounts of clothes, duvets, ski equipment, etc that I wanted to bring back with me but a limited amount of space and so someone suggested I get some of these bags. They are incredibly easy to use. THey are plastic storage bags in essence and you basically just fill up the bag and then close up the water tight zip and vacuum the air out. There is a little valve where you place the vacuum nozzle and that is where you suck the air out of. It's really interesting to watch all the air coming out of the bags and it really does compress them.
I have to say I think they also brought the weight of the items down as well. You know how it is when you have a big heavy bag, well these storage bags seem to compress and make it easier to carry and transport the bags around. I shipped them and when I got to the other end they were very easy to open up, you basically just let the air out. All my clothes and items were still in perfect condition, the bags really do not do any damage to your items inside. Of course, if you have a big puffy ski jacket or the like it will need shaking out but apart from that the clothes are all in great condition. It keeps them waterproof as well.
This is also a great way to store clothes, say store your winter jumpers over the summer if you don't need them and a great way to keep the moths away and keep your clothes fresh. The bags are see through so you can tell what you have put in them in case you need to get in there at a later date.
My original ones were from American but I have since bought some from JML Direct. They come in a number of shapes and sizes and are about £5 for a large bag and more if you buy a multi pack.
