In response to Davey's review of Vaillant (11/08), I am somewhat surprised that he has commented on the disadvantages and not the advantages of their boilers.
I am even more surprised that he has suggested a "mid" range boiler such as Vokera or Ideal of which I wouldn't personally install in my shed!!
My name is Nick Harris and my company is AquaHeat Oxford Ltd. My plumbers and I have been exclusively installing Vaillant boilers in the Oxon area since Feb'06. We have successfully installed over 150 and continue to endorse them. We are Accredited Installers with Vaillant too.
In all honesty, we have only had 3 problems, all of which were dealt with very quickly and with no stress or strain on us or the customer. Not a bad ratio!!
They are by far the best because they are very simple to hang and plumb in, commission and service. They are bloody quiet and their controls are very good too.
Now, I understand that they are expensive, but you get what you pay for don't you? They're German for God's sake!!! When was the last time you bought a German product in the UK and it was cheap?!!!
There are many other engineers out there who all endorse Vaillant over other boilers. If there's that many engineers as well as us endorsing their boilers then they must be doing something right in Remscheid mustn't they?
I admit that sometimes their customer service makes you wait for 10+ mins which is frustrating but their technical support team are very very helpful.
I used to install any kind of boiler when I first became CORGI registered because I wanted to get experience and the job. But now, I will not install any other boiler. This is mainly because I know the only call back I'm gonna get is in 12 months time for a service!
One more very important piece of info: Once installed the boiler is essentially connected to a dirty old system, generally. You must flush out the system and keep it clean every year. If this is not done on the installation then it’s fatal for the boiler. It will reduce its life expectancy. A boiler and / or heating system can look all clean and nice on the outside but dirty and sludgy on the inside.
A full service of a heating system to me is to check the boiler, controls, gas supply etc. But also to drain down the system, cleanse for a few hours then refill with inhibitor. I do this every year at my home and my heating / hot water hasn’t missed a heartbeat since!
