"I'll Tell You A Tale Of Vampirates...

Advantages: great book really captivating
Disadvantages: none

Justin Somper has made this book brilliant and inspiring. Anthony Horowitz described it as "Totally Original". This book is amazingly based around an old sea shanty about Vampirates. It is quoted below: "I'll tell you a tale of Vampirates, A tale as old as true. Yea, I'll sing you a song of an ancient ship, And it's mighty fearsome crew. Yea, I'll sing you a song of an ancient ship, That sails the oceans blue... That haunts the oceans blue. "The Vampirate ship has tattered sails, That flap like wings in flight. They say the captain, he wears a veil So as to curtail your fright At his death-pale skin And his lifeless eyes And his teeth as sharp as night. Oh, they say the captain, he wears a veil And his eyes never see the light. "You'd better be good, child - good as gold, As good as good can be. Else I'll turn ...

The Prince Of Tides : A glimpse into a tortured childhood

Advantages: Very well acted, absorbing, intense, shocking in parts
Disadvantages: A little mawkish at the end

of the storyline away, but I'll speak a little about my own feelings on The Prince Of Tides. I watched this film on the recommendation of a friend, and I was a little apprehensive because my friend's and my own tastes in films, music etc. doesn't always coincide, but when she told me this was about delving into the history of a deeply dysfunctional family, I decided to give it a watch - at the time I was going through some counselling myself, dealing with a few of my own childhood issues, and I thought it may be something I could perhaps identify with. I settled alone one evening to watch The Prince Of Tides, and as the film rolled on and got into the storyline, my eyes were becoming more firmly glued to the screen. I found one or two parts of it touched a little too close for comfort on a couple of my own childhood experiences, but that was ...

Taming the Tides of War

Advantages: Trademark unique narration, "Accurate Fiction"
Disadvantages: A little erratic pacing, Not the author's best

After nullifying the latest Persian threat and enjoying a few golden decades of supremacy, Greece did what Greece does: broke out in a ruthless civil war. Athens battled Sparta for the rule of Ancient Greece and the 27-year struggle's physical and spiritual toll was irreparable. As the momentum of the conflict continually veered from one side to the other, one man's life reflected these, ever-changing, tides of war. Relentless on the battlefield and cunning in politics, Alcibiades' combination of qualities made him that era's most instrumental individual. Through the eyes of two almost ordinary men, Steven Pressfield shows us how close genius is to insanity and true heroism to despiteful treason, as we see Alcibiades coldly changing sides throughout the Peloponnesian War. ***The Author*** Although there fortunately are many ...
