=== Vanish Oxi Action Multi Fabric Stain Remover ===
Just to give you some background, I had a mad panic back in July where I spent several frantic weeks scouring the shops of London town for a perfect dress to wear to my boyfriend's sisters wedding in Ireland in August. I found this beautiful canary yellow creation, sweetheart neck, nipped ... ...500g tub. All of the Vanish products are quite distinctive being bright pink, and this one is no different. (Although the product picture shows it being white, this doesnt look like the same product, but the name is the same!)
The tub consists of a pink scoop and the product itself which is white and powdery. This product can be used on colours and whites, but cannot be used on wool, silk or leather.

Vanish Oxi Action Multi Fabric Stain Remover
Just to give you some background, I had a mad panic back in July where I spent several frantic weeks scouring the shops of London town for a perfect dress to wear to my boyfriend's sisters wedding in Ireland in August. I found this beautiful canary yellow creation, sweetheart neck, nipped at the waist and then a full skirt that hit the calves. Perfect. I went to lunch with my friend who was shopping with me that day, and commented on how the bag containing the precious dress was going on the seat next to me rather than on the floor because wouldn't it be awful if I spilt Mexican food on my new expensive dress??!
Well, as we laughed it off, no accidents happened. However I wasn't to get away with it that easily. As I walked home from the tube I stopped off to get an ice lolly as it was a hot day - a Starburst summer fruits one. I think you can guess what happened. I'm happily sauntering along with my fabulous purchase in a bag on my arm and licking my delicious ice lolly. Only when I get home and take it out of the bag to hang it up do I see a HORRID PURPLE STAIN right around the crotch area where the lolly must've dripped into the bag without me realising! Only I could ruin a dress without actually wearing it first....
Needless to say I was devastated, it was Saturday night, the dress is 100% cotton with some kind of sheen on it and is dry clean only and I have no chance of getting it to a dry cleaners until Monday morning. I then spent the whole of next week worrying about said dress and developed a personal relationship the owner of my local drycleaners who rang me several times to tell me he had tried everything but it just wasn't coming out but it was (slightly) faded. In the meantime, I had ordered another dress online which was ok, but just not the same.
I'd given up hope when I got the dress back from the cleaners and saw that I'd never get away with wearing it until - of all people - my boyfriend suggested this stuff. I told him that it was ridiculous, the dress was wrecked. As he pointed out, I had nothing to lose - my next step was to dye the dress black so at least I could wear it once!
I bought a tub in Sainsburys for under £4.00 (currently online it is retailing at £3.98) for a 500g tub.
The directions are to add one scoop to your wash or use as a pre-treat / soaking solution for really tough stains. As by now my dress, although not worn, had been dry cleaned a total of 3 times, I decided to go for the soaking option. I put one scoop in warm water and plunged the offending stain into the water to let it soak and sat back with my fingers crossed...
The Claims
Just a bit about the website which is where I got the below information from. The website for Vanish (www.vanish.co.uk) has a wealth of information on their products and you can type in the stain issue into the "stain solver" tab and it will provide a solution/correct product to use. ( I have only just discovered this!)
"Whatever type of stain challenge you have, new Vanish Oxi Action Multi has the answer! The versatile formula is suitable for use on many fabrics, is safe for coloured and white fabrics and is effective on a wide range of stains - even when washed at low temperatures"
== The Results ==
I allowed the dress to soak for about 30 minutes before I got worried that it might bleach the yellow too much and fished the dress out - my housemate helped me hold it up to see how it was going and we could barely see anything left. Both convinced that it was just because the dress was darker due to the water, we put the dress back in for another 15 minutes.
After this time, I took the dress out rinsed it thoroughly as suggested (it also suggest that you might want to rub the stain before rinsing) and then hung it out to dry. If you were pre-treating this obviously now is the time to put this in the wash for a spin.
I left it to dry overnight and I couldn't actually believe it the next day - I had to take it outside in the daylight to convince myself that what I was seeing was right! I couldn't see the purple stain ANYWHERE. I couldn't even remember where abouts it had been in the first place! This stuff is really amazing. There was no trace, no bleached section, no nasty smell, it was just a nice, clean yellow dress - maybe I had imagined a stain in the first place??! No.
Since then, I've used this on various stains including chocolate, coffee and blackcurrant. Its not so great at coming out in the wash - one scoop in here rarely seems to do much at all. If it doesnt all come out, Ill put in soak again, and it does the trick!
The only annoying thing is that I've since discovered that my mum, nan and my best friend all use this in their wash all the time because they too think its great - they didn't however mention this when I was calling them for advice when it wouldn't come out!
Conclusion
This is pretty cut and dried - it worked - full stop. It was so good, that I went down to the dry cleaners with my dress and showed him so that he wouldn't have the same problem again with someone else- he would know what to use! I cannot recommend this highly enough. The only downside was having my boyfriend be all smug about his find - until I threatened to tell all his rugby mates that he solved my dress stain issue. Soon shut him up! ;)
Advantages: It will remove most stains. Disadvantages: You may need to wear a pair of rubber gloves.
...I have to get the Vanish out to do its extra work and the garment has to go back into the machine. I should not have been so lazy in the first place. It kind of takes me back to the old days when we used carbolic soap, which always seemed to get most stains out too. Well it washed the dirt of my face.
My husband, never one to remove stains but always one to make them, asked.
“What do you use this bar of soap for then?”
I smiled sweetly and widened ... ...you not to leave the Vanish on the side of the sink, and now I digress, a relative of mine once cleaned his teeth with hair remover, because it came in a tube! Okay so he never grew any hairs on his teeth again but he did suffer from burnt gums. So apart from sweet and sour what other stains does this wonderful little bar remove? So far for me, I would say everything it has rubbed up against.
Talking of rubbing up against, there is nothing worse ...

..."vanish" . If I could vanish myself into a small dark place till the weekend was over, I wouldn't need to be seen stuffing my face in a less than perfect t-shirt by the hot guy. Thinking that to be a little extreme (and a sure route out of getting laid) I opted for a big pink tub of powder, also named "Vanish". What a coinky dink!
I whizzed down to Asda straight away and popped this pink tub into my basket along with the sausages, KY jelly and Cookie ... ...I never succeeded. So was Vanish drunk enough to salvage my brand new love affair??
Round two goes to....Kebab. I cried a little. I felt defeated. Vanish was dead to me. Dead as can be. Then I remembered the funky things they do on the advert with stretching the spot over a glass and going "oh wow, isn't it fantastic, how did I ever live with out it" in that very plastic way.

How Do I Know If I've Got The Right Stuff?
Vanish Gel (pre-wash stain remover) comes in a bright pink and white 200ml tube. I brought my last tube at Tesco yesterday for £2.77, although I have seen it on special. a) Brake/Transmission fluid/Oil/Grease/Dirt - Vanish works remarkably well on these stains. Before the MOTH got a uniform, he had to wear his own old shirts to work. I tried Vanish, and it removed 80% of the grease etc - without presoaking. I washed it again the next week, and you can barely see the stain anymore. I think with these types of stain though, treating them quickly, and presoaking, would ...

Frankly I was still less than impressed, but sometimes you just can?t afford to look too closely at ethical considerations and Vanish do produce a great range of products for laundry and upholstery as well as carpets. I already used their Vanish Oxi Action Fabric StainRemover as necessary in the wash with varied but quite impressive results. In fact I never even bothered to check out such information when the first of a chapter of accidents befell my highly prized, new carpet. I just rushed out and grabbed the aerosol can and its chemical contents without a quibble or a second thought. I was after all safeguarding an £800 investment!
~~~POWER SHOT AND MY CARPET DISASTERS!~~~
When I moved into my present flat three years ago ...
I love cleaning products and love trying out new ones. I saw this in Morrisons and thought that I'd give it a try. I have three children and like most children they tend to have accidents especially with food and drink, so I thought this would be perfect.
Vanish is a well known leading brand of stainremoval products. I have tried many of their products over the years and can actually say that I have found them all to be rubbish and overpriced.
Vanish Power Shot is sold in your average tin with a plastic lid. It is in a bright pink colour that is eyecatching. It contains 400ml of this stainremover. When you spray the aerosol it comes out like a spay and then foams up like a mousse.
Directions for use:
1. Remove solid residue from carpet.
2. Shake can well and spray about 15cm from stained area.
3.Immediately blot ...
Advantages: A good stain remover for carpets Disadvantages: not good for large areas
banned from any room that has carpet the mud still finds away in! And another one is juice, which is also banned but again seems to sprout legs and run to the carpet, as no one ever seems to know how the stains got there!
So this is the reason I always have a can of this stuff in my cupboard.
The vanish products are owned by Reckitt Benckiser, they also own other famous brands such as finish, lemsip, dettol, E45 & optrex to name but a few. All vanish products are that distinctive bright pink colour. This product comes in a 400ml spray can, which states that it will dissolve stains instantly. The only gripe I have with the can is the lid which when I finally get it off I always end up breaking it as it is very cheap plastic.
