For the first time in my life I've encountered 'dry' skin. My dry skin is not in anyway paralelled to that of somebody suffering the torture of eczema, or worse. To these people I bear a monumental conscience for whining atall. Generally, my 'dry' skin erupts after a bath, and left unattended, it has interferred with sleep, and drives me mad! The incessant itching and scratching, slowly graduating to soreness.....I count my blessings even so. ...between the fingers especially. The outer boundaries of the base of my feet, and worst of all, down the curvature of my spine. Worst because, I can barely reach it! Why weren't we fitted with double-joints all round??
Not being accustomed to this condition, I was at a loss as to know the best thing to use (or NOT use, for that matter), in order to rectify this. The cause is one bemusement, to find a panacea, another.

My 'dry' zones are my hands, in between the fingers especially.
Like with all un-expected, medical complaints; whether my own, or family's, I always turn to known sources or brand names. I trialed the Nivea lotion I use for my face and hands, but it barely scraped the surface. I would've tried, perhaps one of the 'Oil of Olay' range, but I've never been quite reconciled with the fragrance they use. I appreciate it's popular, but just not for me.
Hence, I found myself loitering amongst many a skincare aisle, daunted by the masses of products on offer. In 'Superdrug' my eyes 'homed-in' on the 'Vaseline' labels. Immediately for some reason, I thought of 'petroleum jelly', the name of which itself, is not entirely appealing. I remember my grandma having a little tin/tub of it in her bathroom cabinet, for little shaving 'nicks'. She swore by it, and at this present time, her recommendation came flooding back to me.
Amongst the different-coloured bottles and tubes, sporting the 'Vaseline' logo, I noticed a pale yellow group, sub-titled, 'Essential Moisture'. Beneath the dark-blue lettering were the words, 'Hand & Body lotion', for 'dry skin'. It also stated that it contained a 'multi-vitamin complex.' (Well, nobody's perfect! Sorry, couldn't resist that one). Diagrams on the reverse, showed it was a versatile product, and suitable for all minor causes and occasions our skins might take a disliking to. Further impressive boasts were, assurances that it was 'easily absorbed' ,and that it was 'non-greasy'. No stained laundry then, hopefully. Reading this was like 'music to my ears', a 'last night at the Proms', in fact.
Not wishing to dive straight into the heady heights of parting with approximately £3.00 a 400ml bottle, I opted for the 75ml tube, at the princely sum of £1.19. Quantities and comparable prices from three different stores are at the foot of this review.
After a hot bath that night, before I'd even finished 'towelling' myself down, the infernal itching and irritation began. With hope and added haste, I got out the 'Vaseline'. The pale yellow, creamy fluid, evacuated the tube with ease. Emitting a non-clinical, un-invasive, delicate aroma. To be honest I wasn't instantly smitten with the smell, until my hubby walked into the room. He enquired what the smell was, then totally out of character, said, 'That's nice'. Blimey, and it wasn't even my birthday! The fragrance had suddenly grown in stature. More importantly, the relief from the itching was almost as soon as it was applied. Absorbency was rapid, and it left no residues. My skin did have a welcomed 'sheen' rather than a 'shine' afterwards, along with feeling soft and soothed. The fragrance did not wane into unpleasantness, and at no point did my skin feel sticky. In fact nothing other than 'peaceful'.
Inspiring confidence, I now purchase the large 400ml bottle. I do not have to re-apply more than once a day, but obviously individual needs will determine this. If used once a day, I find this generally lasts about a month. However, this can vary depending on whether it's been 'pilfered' by other members of the household. It seems to have universal appeal, bridging gender and age gaps. I make a point of keeping it with MY stuff, lest they forget who it belongs to!
I wholeheartedly recommend this product, as a versatile, moisturizer for all the family, and pacifier of minor, dry skin irritations. For people with chemical allergies sometimes found in lotions and creams, there is a comprehensive list of ingredients on the back of the bottle, plus a freephone helpline: 0800 591720.
Accessibility is excellent, and is easily found in all good chemists and supermarkets.
Below is a small list of suppliers, quantities and prices, correct as @ 04.04.04.
Advantages: Effective, cheap, smells nice, makes your skin soft Disadvantages: Quite runny, comes out of the bottle fast, leaks out of lid
...I thought I would try Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion for dry skin. I have used others but I wanted to try a different one for a change.
It comes in a 75ml tube with a flip lid. The tube is light yellow in colour with the name of the product in a blue box. It is not an eye catching tube to look at as it's just plain and simple really to look at. The flip lid is really easy to open so you don't hurt your fingers trying to open it.
The lotion is yellow ... ...quite runny though compared to other one's that I have used like Nivea. Also when you squeeze the lotion out of the tube, it comes out really fast, so you don't need to squueze it hard or too much comes out.
You can use it all over your body as a moisturiser for dry skin. I use it on my hands and face. You don't need to use loads in one go either as it is effective and a bit goes a long way. I only use it once a day as that is all that is needed. ...

...Trampus challenge to write on Vaseline intensive care hand and body lotion, the tale even has a multi-vitamin complex to spice things up.
I used to use Boots intensive lotion for skin as I do suffer from dry skin (I probably don't drink enough - may be an easy solution for you dry skinned people out there - drink more) anyway I had to do something about it as it could pose as embarassing a problem as having dandruff (no I don't use head and shoulders ... ...homebrand so I plumped for vaseline intensive care instead, and ever since my life has been happy and full of sunshine (well not quite but here's what happened).
I noticed sometimes when using the Boots own brand that my skin would be a little clammy after using it (I used to use it on my face too, maybe that's why) and I also swapped between the dry and extra dry version as I was somewhere inbetween (probably moderately dry would have worked okay). ...

VASELINE INTENSIVE CARE DRY SKIN LOTION - Firstly I would like to say please ignore the photo of the product above as it seems to be out of date as the products bottle is a different shape and design now.

When reading beauty magazines, you will always find that the best skin tip is to moisturise it so that it looks its best. This is not just to apply some lotion on it; it also means to drink plenty of water every day so that your skin ... ...My favourite body lotion is Vaseline intensive care dry skin lotion. It is packaged in a yellow bottle (very summery) with a blue and green label. On the back is displayed a clear sticker with blue writing that has directions for use on it. The directions are very informative and have four diagrams with the different ways to use it, which are all over body, all family skincare, after shower moisturisation and after-shave moisturisation, which makes ...

...bank either.
The special Vaseline formula was developed by a crack group of Shetland Pony, scientists, who also cleverly added a multi-vitamin complex to help care for everyday dry skin. Vaseline say that it is to produce fast and long lasting relief, leaving the skin feel soft and smooth and looking healthy. All of which I cannot argue with, in fact it does exactly what it says on the bottle.
The lotion is easily absorbed and doesn’t leave ... ...head.
Nether the less Vaseline intensive care, Dry skin and body lotion, with multi-vitamin complex, does the job very well, and has left my skin feeling very soft indeed. Perhaps a bit to soft, but hey who cares? It also has quite a pleasant aroma after application, but for the more conscious of you, it is obvious that you are using it because of the smell.
Any complaints, questions or comments (about the animal thing, or anything at all) can ...

...sounded good. It was called Vaseline Intensive Care 'Dry Skin'. Funny name really, 'Dry Skin Remover' might have been more apt. So in a flash I neatly removed the bottle and placed it in my weekend bag (under the cover of a T-shirt). Vaseline Intensive Care 'Dry Skin' lotion is meant to be a hand and all over body lotion but by adapting it as an after shave balm I have one less thing to worry about. For someone who has a healthy disregard for most cosmetics I have been completely sold on ...

Advantages: Runs in well, keeps skin soft Disadvantages: None
I have been using this lotion for years and have tried a few others, but I always keep coming back to this one. It's really great at keeping skin nice and soft, rubs in well and smells OK too. It's not the cheapest around but it's from far being the most expensive.
I have quite sensitive skin, sometimes suffering from exzema and it has never irritated my skin, as some other lotions have. You can get the smaller bottles or the bigger ones, you can get the more intensive version or one with aloe vera. I've tried them all and they are all good. It's a nice thick lotion, but not greasy and it's doesn't take forever to rub in. The only downside is that whilst it smells fine, it doesn't have a great smell.
It's available on most places, Boots, supermarkets etc.
Defintely recommended, especially for sensitive skin. ...
Advantages: Great for healing tattoos and other skin problems Disadvantages: none that I can find.
I have a bottle of this stuff stashed everywhere. No really. I've got a bottle at work, a bottle at home and a bottle in the car...and lets face it, I have no life, so that's everywhere.
"Why??" I hear you scream? (ok well, maybe not scream) The fact of the matter is, I have a tonne of tattoos. When I get new ones, I get a small tub of Goo from my artist and then I am left to my own devices. He recommends Cocoa butter, which I do use too. I find that to be a little too greasy for me though.
Vaselineintensivecare goop, however, isn't as greasy as you may imagine. Most other bottles of goop that I apply liberaly tend to stay quite wet and rub off on everything for hours after I slap it on whereas this lovely stuff is soaked up easily and any residue that is left soon dries enough to have the area make contact with other things ...
Advantages: rids of those red areas during those winter months Disadvantages: stings a bit if the redness is too red
longer holidays, and my smaller tube for shorter breaks away. The one I have within my hand is the small tube that I take away on short breaks. It's a 75ml tube, and it usually lasts me around six months for short breaks that I take. It's a creamy colour and has the deep blue logo with Vaselineintensivecare embedded within the square. It says on the front that it is meant for dryskin and is essential moisture. It also says multi-vitamin complex.
On the back it gives you a paragraph about what the lotion does; the address of the manufacturer, the ingredients, the price code, and the Vaselineintensivecare log in a smaller version upon the back.
How to use and apply
When you get a red area appear on your skin, try and rub in the body lotion when you see it appearing, because otherwise if it becomes too red, it can sting when you rub ...
