Amazingly, the company Vaseline started in 1859 by a 22 year old chemist from New York named Robert Cheeseborough. He found out about it when he visited an oil well, discovering that the workers could use the "Rod wax" to heal cuts. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly is a lip balm that soothes and prevents chapped lips, but the difference between the "Aloe Vera" and the "Pure Petroleum Jelly" versions is that "Sun Protection SPF 15" not only cares for your lips, it protects against the suns rays.
Previously I had bought the "Pure Petroleum Jelly" and "Aloe Vera" (blue and green) versions and I used them all the time. I used up all of the blue lip balm and I lost the green, so I needed a new one and so I headed straight for Boots when I went shopping with a friend. All three were sitting on the shelf (blue, green and yellow) and I was immediately baffled with which one to get. The blue one just soothes the lips, the green one does that with added aloe vera, and the yellow soothes with sun protection, so on consulting with my friend I decided to try something new and get the yellow. Of course, this one is probably intended for use in the summer because of the sun protection but I will still continue to use it in the winter to prevent my lips chapping.
Amazingly, the company Vaseline started in 1859 by a 22 year old chemist from New York named Robert Cheeseborough. He found out about it when he visited an oil well, discovering that the workers could use the "Rod wax" to heal cuts. Months later, he extracted a safely useable petroleum jelly and started selling it to people in America until finally it became a nationwide product. In 1987 Unilever purchased Cheeseborough's brand and they still own it to this day, and 130 years after Vaseline was discovered, people across the globe still use the products. Vaseline is a brand that specialises in helping your skin and they have products that care for your face, hands, nails, feet, legs, lips and body. Their product ranges include: lotions, petroleum jelly, lip therapy, soap and body wash.
The packaging for this product is very simple and there is no added cardboard or plastic sealing which is good because it means that nothing is wasted. The tin for this lip balm is yellow and white with the diameter being 5cm and the height approximately 2cm. The lid slides off the tin easily, but it doesn't come off so easy that it will just fall off in your bag. It is circular in shape and the only size they have is 20g, but it lasts a very long time so I wouldn't worry. In big letters the word Vaseline is printed and above that it says, "Lip therapy SPF 15 sun protection," and underneath, "Petroleum jelly, pocket size."
For those of you who can be bothered reading the ingredients(!), here they are: ♥ Petrolatum.... to soften and soothe skin and to prevent moisture loss ♥ Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate.... to prevent sun damage ♥ Butyl methoxydibenzoyl methane.... to prevent sun damage ♥ Butyrospermum parkii.... aka Shea butter, prevents dry skin ♥ Benzophenone-3.... to prevent sun damage ♥ BHT.... to soothe the lips
I wouldn't say that this product smells or tastes of anything but for me no smell is better than a bad smell, the green version has quite a nice scent if that's what you prefer. It absorbs quite slowly, but maybe this is because I put a lot on =p. To apply all you have to do is dip a clean finger into the tin so that some of the jelly goes onto it, then smooth it onto your lips. It goes on very easily and it is great use as a lip gloss, and you can feel the soothing sensation really well if your lips are really chapped. Despite the fact that it has sun protection it is clear, not white as most sun lotions are.
There are more uses for Vaseline petroleum jelly than you may think, it not only helps your lips, it can be used for toenail fungus, chest colds, nappy rash, nosebleeds and even to remove stains from furniture. Can't say I've tried any of these but if you have please let me know! Even just general dry skin can be helped by using vaseline petroleum jelly. I have found out that there can also be some dangerous sides of using petroleum jelly, such as on fresh burns to the skin because the jelly traps heat and worsens it. You shouldn't use it by your nose either because it may cause trouble with the cilia, stopping them from cleaning the air properly.
The advantages of this are that it soothes my lips, it stops them becoming dry, it stops them from getting chapped, it protects them from the sun, it is good use as a lip gloss, it isn't sticky or gooey and it doesn't irritate or sting. The disadvantages are that when you have had the tin for a long time the colouring scratches off and it doesn't look as appealing =( is quite greasy as well so you need to be careful not to get it on your clothes, but the main disadvantage that I can think of is that it melts in the pot when it gets too hot, which can't be a good thing if it is intended for use as sun protection. When I go on holiday I think that I will probably keep it in the fridge and take it out only when I am using it, otherwise it might turn into liquid!
I haven't had this vaseline for a very long time but I love it and I'm very glad I bought it. I prefer it from the other two because it gives extra protection, as it is SPF 15. I would recommend it to people who have chapped lips, or who are prone to getting chapped lips especially at summertime. It is pocket size and so you can take it almost anywhere with you, and you only need to use a small amount to get excellent results so it lasts for a very long time.
You can buy it from a chemist or from shops such as Superdrug or Boots and it will cost around £1.49, which is quite cheap for the results it gives. The blue and green lip balms will only cost around 96p, but I am prepared to pay the extra 53p for the extra protection.
Overall, I think that this tub of vaseline works wonders and It's something I can't live without. I carry it around almost everywhere with me! Its simplicity is admirable and it gives long lasting results which is a definite bonus! A big thanks to Robert Cheeseborough for inventing the stuff!! =D
Thanks for reading - hope it helped =) İfashionista27

...in interviews in magazines) then Vaseline lip therapy with SFF15 would definitely be one of my three. It's an unbelievable beauty product and even better still it's only less than £2 from Boots.
Vaseline lip therapy is basically a small tub/tin of Petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly was produced in the US in the latter part of the 1800's by a gentleman called Robert Chesebrough. He then coined the name Vaseline. Ever since its invention petroleum jelly ... ...like about the tin of Vaseline is that it is pocket size and very handy to slip in your bag. I have quite a few in different bags just to make sure I always have one with me. The tin is 20g and measures about 5cm in diameter and 1.5cm deep. It is made by Unilever in Norway. The tin has a circular lid that is sometimes hard to get on but good because it stays on and if the jelly does get hot and melts a little the nice thing is none escapes because ...

...almost ever since I've know Vaseline has been around and my Mum always tended to buy it in one of those HUUUUGE tubs and she just used to plaster it on anything! Dry lips, grazes, cute, etc! Anyway so it seems to be one of those things that has just been around for ages, but I haven't used it for years and it was only a year or so ago when I saw these little round metal pots, with the famous 'Vaseline' written across it! As I had dry chapped lips ... ...the final price!
Range:
Vaseline has a large range, from the familiar yellowy tub, to these little pots. In these pot range there is the blue tub which is the original , SPF 15 one which is in the yellow tub, the green one which is an aloe vera one and the pink one, which is a tinting one!
My view:
I am not sure on this product, it isn't as good as what I have remembered and doesn't really soothe my lips as the lip balm gets soaked up ever so ...
