A powerful diesel hatchback
Advantages: The engine, performance, looks, equipment, general finish Disadvantages: The gear change between 5th & 6th, leg room in the rear
The Vauxhall Astra has been with us since 1979 in various guises & is constantly in the top selling list of cars in the UK ever since. The reason that the Astra has proved popular is due to its modern designs, the fact that it is usually well equipped, cheap to run & insure & despite its reliability concerns its quite simple & cheap to repair.
A recent 270 mile blast to central Scotland in the new Astra Diesel gave me an opportunity to assess the ... ...mobile phones or even coins. Vauxhall supply one cup holder between the front seats but at least it’s designed to hold a travel mug with a handle & there is a sunglasses holder on the roof. The boot looked vast with the option of folding down the rear seats to gain more space.
It came well equipped with a decent radio CD with iPod socket, air conditioning, electric front windows, central locking, electric mirrors & alloy wheels. The top mounted ...

consider an astra
Advantages: Safety ,Comfort reasonably low insurance and running costs Disadvantages: Rear folding split seat does not fold flat Space save wheel spare of limited use
...is fairly standard for the Vauxhall range it is this combined with the abs braking system and in my version six airbags which help contribute to its excellent NCAPS 5 star rating
The driving position is comfortable the seats are firm and offer good support the driving seat is adjustable for height and backrest position. Passenger comfort is enhanced by full air conditioning although without climate control but is effective ventilation heating being ... ...also adjustable for reach and rake The in car entertainment is provided by a fitted RDS radio/cd player, with remote display which can also be controlled from buttons on the leather 3 spoke steering wheel. There is a multifunction computer combined in the radio display the functions of which can also be controlled from the steering wheel however some of the readings should be treated with caution but overall it is a useful addition

Great medium hatchback for a family car
Advantages: Comfort, fuel economy, cheap insurance Disadvantages: Slow at low revs
...The interior is typical Vauxhall - satisfactory but nothing to write home about. The seats are comfortable and the driving position allows enough room, but the downside is they are difficult to clean if you happen to get them dirty. It comes with a CD player and air conditioning as standard - something I missed about my old Astra, but then again that is to be expected these days. I personally like the new style - it is certainly an improvement over ... ...about this as it is really a matter of individual opinion.
Overall, the Astra is a good all rounder, it's only real disadvantage being that lack of pace from a standstill. It is cheap to insure and doesn't glug through fuel, and like most diesels, it will hold it's value well up to a higher mileage than petrol models. If you do enough miles to justify buying a diesel it is well worth considering. ...

Vauxhall Astra Club CD TI 5dr Hatch (manual)
Advantages: Good, solid reliable Disadvantages: engine noisy,
I recently rented an Astra for a couple of weeks. The car was really nice and easy to drive and handled well. It felt solidly built and had a quality finish. It was pretty responsive and nippy when accelerating. Nice smooth gearbox. The fuel consumption wasn't too good for me but I was only doing short runs, so not enough to heat the engine properly. I did notice that the engine was noisy even when inside the car, diesels these days should be much ... ...family of 5 and the boot is pretty large and deep. Music system was great and the interior dash and controls were well laid out and clear. The price isn't too cheap, RRP around 15.5K. Overall a lovely car. I would seriously consider this car if I was a buyer in this market. ...

Hey, it's Astra-nomical!
Advantages: Performance, spec, reasonable insurance Disadvantages: Some think the looks are too conservative
...ago. This was from a Vauxhall dealer I found in Slough after doing a used car search on Vauxhall’s very helpful website. I had decided on the Astra as both the Golf GTi and Peugeot 206 GTi had very similar performance as the Astra but much higher insurance groups. (The Astra 2.0 SRi is Group 11).
The price of £11,000 I thought was quite reasonable for a sports model that was just over a year old and only had 8,000 miles on the clock.
I found ... ...they even gave me £350 for my rusty old 1991 Metro GTA on a trade in which was nice!
Anyway onto the car… You get a very decent spec with this model. Firstly you get a nice 2.0 litre, fuel injected, 16v, twin cam engine which develops around 138 bhp. The interior of the car is sensible rather than flashy but is also well equiped. You get a CD player, comfortable and fully adjustable sports seats, air conditioning, electric windows, twin air ...
