Advantages: Sporty looks, good road manners Disadvantages: poor rear visability, dark cabbin
...car is getting more common. Vauxhall can sell you a kit to make your car look like the fearsome VXR for any of the 3 door models. Cabin quality is excellent, with high quality soft touch plastics and solid switchs and buttons. It can feel a bit dark sometimes, maybe a should of gone for the panoramic windscreen. Good hold on the road through tight corners and enough grunt for most occasions. Only major downfall of this car is the poor rear visability ... Read review

Advantages: Cheap, Very Reliable, Carry Large Loads, Safety Disadvantages: Fuel Economy is Poor while the HI TORQ claim is false advertising, Security
...have owned my 1993 (K-Reg) Vauxhall Astra 1.4 HI-TORQ since early 2004 and it has been a great car that has seen many of my other vehicles come and go. The Astra has been my primary car during my ownership covering just under 25,000 miles and has served me with reliability and practicality that would be envied by more modern cars and their owners. GENERAL EXPERIENCE The Astra has been very much a workhorse and has been treated as such. The bodywork ......stuff I have an ex Vauxhall mechanic to do the jobs although I am building up the confidence to tackle my first timing belt change in the near future. Servicing costs are extremely cheap even if you decide to take the car to a garage to have repairs/servicing done. With these old cars independant garages are more than capable of looking after them at a cheap price. Regarding the cost of parts they are available cheaply from either breakers yards ... Read review
Advantages: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, doesn't look too bad Disadvantages: interior, quite big
...However, I bought a Vauxhall Astra as my first car after being a student and it cost only £250.00 which was good for a car which was only 5 years old. The insurance was reasonable considering that I was a new driver. Also the tax was not too bad. The car lasted me three years and in the whole time, mechanically the car was fine. There were a few problems with the clutch, but this was fixed at a cost of about £100.00. I do not know that much about ......nothing wrong with it the last time I took it to the garage. For a car that was 8 years old I thought that this was pretty impressive. The car is not too bad too look at. However the interior is pretty awful. Nothing glam just the necessities. However you get what you pay for. The only major problem I foud with the car was that it was quite large, and as a result (and being a girl, i hear you cry) I found it really hard to park. I am 5foot7 and ... Read review
Advantages: Looks nice, if a little common Disadvantages: Unreliable safety equipment, in my case
...wasn't too great but no Vauxhall stereo's are so I fitted my own. Overall a very nice looking and tidy car but the safety equipment leaves a lot to be desired, something found out the hard way. If I wanted a similar car with a the good points of this car but a reliable safety record I'd go for the saloon focus or the new shape Vauxhall Vectra which both have great safety ratings. ...
