Advantages Advantages Drives Nice, Great Economy, Cheap Tax, Cheap Insurance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as quick as some.

I bought this car in November 2005, to replace a rather thirsty, but fun Ford Probe. Due mainly to the fact that I do a 40 mile round trip to work every day, which was costing over £40 per week in petrol, I decided to forget performance, and get a Diesel. I test drove several cars, Golfs, Mondeos, Citroens and the like. I had never considered an Astra, as the Cavalier I had several years ago was the most unreliable car I've ever seen. On a budget of £3500, I was looking to get the newest, best condition car available. 406's, Mondeos (newer ones) and Golfs were all either well out of my price ... more

Advantages Advantages Space age looks (New Model 2004) Great Engine. Quality interior. Equipment

Disadvantages Disadvantages Driving position. Ride & handling.

It is difficult to believe, but the "new" Astra has been on the market now for over a year. It has undoubtedly made quite an impression. Looking quite revolutionary after the last Eurobland Astra model, I am actually having a job bringing its appearance to mind now, so forgettable was the styling. Having driven one or two of them over the last three or four years I am unfortunately also at a loss to recall to myself, let alone to you here just how it drove. Therefore the verdict on the last Astra has to be average but forgettable. It was not always thus. Vauxhall swing from modern avant guarde ... more

Advantages Advantages Good value, very comfortable, nice extras.

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little noisier than I would otherwise have liked...

After I had a run-in with a motocyclist, which wrote off my 2001 Astra, I faced a dilemma. You see, it was a leased vehicle, which means that in the event of a write-off I get to take a new contract. In brief, the price of the Astra has come down a bit since I first bought, ahem... leased, my 2001 model, and I found that if I knocked off the air-conditioning and colour screen GPS, I could probably have afforded a Vectra or Zafira. After spending a few hours in the showroom, I eventually ordered the exact same model that I had had previously. Here's why: I'll admit to being a bit of a gadget ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, Extremely economical, practical and functional. ECO4, Low CO2 emissions

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow, slow, not so quick, slow! Plus what is that under the bonnet, a sewing machine?

I have run this car from new, supplied in May 2003, by the organisation I work for. Now covered 35k miles. I did expect it to be a decent car to drive as I was used to the old model Isusu engined 1.7 turbo diesel. Having spent 100k miles in that. A bit of a flyer too! This model is the 1.7 LS EC04 model. No not built in 2004 this is a special. A special edition (as far as I am concerned) which is very different to the standard 1.7 tdi diesel. The differences are. Spoiler, not for going faster I can assure you. Undertray (covering the chassis) to improve aerodynamics. Longer 4th and 5th gear ... more

I am currently the driver of a Breeze Blue 1.7CDTi SXi (100ps) 5 Door Hatchback which when I first aquired the car in October 2004 I wasn't very impressed, this however as changed. It's wonderful. The company I work for gave me the choice of a Ford Focus in various syles and Engine Sizes , and also the New Astra, having previously driven a Focus I stumped for the Astra. I can't put my finger on what I didn't like about at first it just didn't feel right, the driving position felt awkward, the seats were hard and un forgiving. But this all changed when I had to do a 700mile round trip to ... more
