...The Bertone redesign of the Astra has resulted in a handsome car. The big, frame-less doors allow easy access to the rear of the car, where there is enough room for myself, at six foot to sit behind a similarly tall driver in comfort. There is the usual Vauxhall gusto in the engine, with a set of well-spaced ratios allowing for the car to pull stronger than the 1.8 displacement would belie. There is a meatiness to the helm, which isn't always a given with Vauxhall, providing confidence when driven with commitment and a remarkable resistance to understeer when needed. Boot space is also generous, although access to it is slightly contrived by a boot opening rather than a hatchback. The whole package is well resolved, surprisingly fun and in metallic blue, gets plenty of turned heads from the public....

the astra Review ofVauxhallAstra LS 1.6ihatchbackby

Advantages: cheap to buy (after initial 3 yr period) and run, insurance competitive Disadvantages: the usual vauxhall road noise, looks like other vauxhalls on inside

So in paying more money for the astra you still feel like you are sitting in the cheaper corsa. Its not until you go to the omega (the bigger vauxhall cars) that some all round qualities come into play. Vauxhall seem to have trouble dampening down the road noise which is just as high as in the corsa and vectra. The maintenance costs are pretty reasonable due to the large amount of astras on british roads. Long journeys can be uncomfortable but this is to be expected in a car of this price range....

Advantages: comfortable, stylish and lovely looking Disadvantages: road noise
...This is the best car i have owned, it is a lovely drive and is nice and quick. It is the only car i have wanted to own since passing my driving test four years ago, sad i know, but hey...... we all have our own little dreams. The only noise i have on mine which is annoying is when i go over speed humps, and the exhaust grates along them. the astra is much the same inside as the vectra, but is probably more comfortable in my opinion than the vectra. definately my kind of car. can't wait until i can go and buy the new shape astra....... i would certainly go for the vauxhallastra again, maybe an sxi though next time....
