Advantages Advantages Excellent parts history and economical

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not very good at pulling up hills with a 1.4 engine

We bought an vauxhall astra when recommended one by a friend in 1996. We bought one with a 1.4 engine as we thought it would pull well, and as we bought an ex-company car we were lucky to get a GLS with central locking, electric windows, electric and heated mirrors, sunroof and power steering. We have had it 4 years now and except for the normal wear and tear it has never let us down. We are now looking to get a newer car and our first choice will be another Astra. We had hoped to have got a bigger engine next time tho' as it doesn't seem to pull very well up hills but other than that its been ... more

Advantages Advantages has everything you need and more for a little money

Disadvantages Disadvantages it is so good you think you need more

Not being the sort of person to jump into spending £1000's on a car I spent ages looking into this gradually coming down to Ford Focus or the Astra. The colours were better on the Astra and for some reason it seemed to be a bit more grown up than the focus. What I opted for was the 1.4 - low insurance 16valve better acceleration, higher top speed (where it is legal to use it) and an altogether tidy package of extras. I was in fact fairly impressed with it all. I have susequently referred the car to many friends and would buy nother again. The downside is that the fuel consumption isn't as good ... more

We bought our astra estate 1.4 16v from Network Q 3 years ago and it has never let us down. We ahve moved house (300 miles!) in it, with 3 cats and 2 dogs comfortably on board, it is so spacious and comfortable. Each week we take my parents food shopping and 4 adults plus 2 lots of groceries fit in fine. We also go for lots of walks and 4 adults plus 4 dogs in the back is also comfortable. We got a guard rail so they cant get through when they are muddy. We paid £8k for our x reg 200 model and I would say it is excellent value. It starts first time on the frosty mornings. It came with air con ... more
