My first car was a W reg 1.3 Fiesta that I inherited from my Nan, after a year I had to replace it, I bought a D reg 1.6 Cavalier L and I have never had any big problems with the old girl.

My Cavalier has done 140,000 miles and it only has 4 gears but it actually goes well. On the many trips home from university you could have seen me flying down the M25 at about 95-100 MPH which I believe that many people find hard to believe as it is such an old car, my best has been 115 MPH which is not bad for only 4 gears.

Anyway this car has stood the test of time as the mechanic that I gat to do my MOT has said that for a car of its age it is in excellent condition. I have seen other Cavaliers around that all seem to be in good condition as it seems that Vauxhall built these old cars well. It is rusting around the rear wheel arches, but they all go there anyway and it also has a leaky boot and so the rear window steams up easily but everybody that I know that has a Vauxhall seams to have a steamy rear window.

I have not really had to spend too much money on it over the three years that I have owned it, I did have a problem a couple of years ago at Christmas but it only cost 700 pounds to have fixed and it was rather major, needed new break disks and pads on front, wheel bearing and all I wanted was a service. But apart from that she has not needed much more.

The drive in my car is lovely, with being 6ft 1 I find that there is just enough leg room in it and also there is lots of room in the boot for all manner of stuff as I managed to empty the whole of my room at university in to it and still have plenty of room to spare. If you are wondering it is a 5-door hatchback.

She does seem to be a bit thirsty on the fuel but being that old and only having 4 gears what do you expect.

To sum all this up is if you want a car that has lasted this long and will last longer then think about buying a Cavalier.

Update 11 Feb 2002

Last weekend I finally said good bye to my baby, but now i have replaced it with a 2.5L V6 Vectra :), it only cost me £30 to remove it as nobody would take it from me with 6 months MOT for free, after I have run my Vectra around a bit i will write a review about it.
