Advantages Advantages Great ride, comfortable, good performance, cheap parts, removeable hard top, feels very safe.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor paint, EGR valve, impaired vision when reversing, fuel consumption.

Overall I have found this to be a great car both on and off road. The toughened and hardened suspension is far superior to the old leaf spring design on the older models, though, this in turn makes off roading a little less comfortable. On road it is a pleasure to drive, very good internal build quality, making for a comfortable and quiet ride. The handling in my opinion is excellent for a 4 wheel drive. Sadly it still suffers from the poor plastics on the dash but it is a better build by far. The load space in the rear is relatively small but this is to be expected considering it is the short ... more

Advantages Advantages Good on/off road capabilities. Excellent ride height for motorways

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacks acceleration speed

In spite of the bad press the Frontera gets I purchased a pre-registered standard Frontera 2.2i Sport from a Vauxhall Dealer at a bargain price of £11995 with 5 miles on the clock in March 2001. No ABS or air-con but dead locks, central locking, immobilser, alarm come as standard with rear sunroof. Fantastic on the fly 4x4 means you can change from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive at the push of a button at up to 60mph. Ideal for treacherous conditions or just playing on the beach. Because it has switchable 4 wheel drive it is also fairly economical when compared to the other permanent 4x4 on the road ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, good load carrier, good looking, good for towing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price deterioration, bad press, Can be thirsty

This vehicle in my opinion is very much criticised by the motoring press and to be honest I have to disagree. Granted I havent tried others but I have owned one of these now for 18 months and would recomend one to anyone. The model I have is 1996 lwb - which is just after the facelift. It does everything I want it to do and more. It is a great load carrier, excellent for towing, easy to maintain, cheap to service, and dare I say attractive to look at. Indeed I felt it to be the best looking 4x4 in its price range. Okay if you've got £25 - £30,000 to spend then go buy a Shogun or Landcruiser. I ... more

Advantages Advantages Change to 4 wheel drive on the fly, elevated driving, easy to handle

Disadvantages Disadvantages Petrol consumption, lack of speed in the higher gears

I bought my Frontera for just under £ 6000 from a local dealer. We were looking for a 4x4 that handled like a car but also had 4 wheel drive capability as we live in a somewaht hilly area and were looking for the convenience of the off road driving but the stability of 4 wheel drive for bad weather conditions. I find that the Frontera handles very well and the ability to change to 4 wheel drive on the fly is a definate bonus. If you are looking for speed then this is not the vehicle to by. Between 0- 50 it is quite nippy but after that it is a gradual speed increas. The best I have had out of ... more

Advantages Advantages , good for towing,

    Disadvantages Disadvantages parts expensive,

this is my second frontera.the first was 1997 model which had lots of leg room and I was quite happy with it Then in 2001 I upgraded to a 1999 model .... BIG MISTAKE! this one has two small oval windows at the sides, but none of them open. I suppose thats a plus when you've got small children in it. the sun roof is at the back which is daft. because I always forget to close it,the front seats have to be adjusted every time you get in. there's less leg room in the back of this model. im only 5ft tall so its nice being up high. I alway feel safe driving it .cos its built like a tank.but ... more
