1996 (P) 2.5 V6 CDX Auto Saloon
Advantages: power, comfy cruiser, space Disadvantages: fuel consumption, electrical problems
What a car! Bought this year for £2495.00 This car cost over £23000 when new! who said buying second hand wasn't a good idea.
Okay so i've got a 1996 P- reg with just over 100k miles on the clock. It's got a fairly good service history. This is the top-of-the range model with every conceivable extra included. The next bit may sound like an advert in the paper so apologies for that, but I want to try to get across just how much kit they include on ... ...Climate Control, Front & Rear Elec Windows, Heated Elec Mirrors, Elec Sunroof, CD changer, Traficmaster(*1), Full Leather Interior, Heated Front Seats, Alloy Wheels, Front Fog Lights, Multi-function Display(*2), Illuminated Vanity mirrors on the sun visors, Kerb lights on all 4 doors, 5 separate interior lights, The list goes on.....
*1 Traffic master is Vauxhall's attempt at a very basic navigation system. When subscribed to this system the little ...

good car, eats the miles up!
Advantages: mile muncher! Disadvantages: not the most comfortable on long journeys
i owned a vauxhall vectra dti for around two years, and found the car to be fast (although lacks punch below 2000RPM esp when compared to VW tdi engines),reliable, and reasonably easy on diesel-averaging around 49mpg-53mpg regardless of driving style. the cars are spacious with a large boot although the lip can hinder putting large objects in.
the main issues i had with the car were the dreaded fuel leak off pipes and the vacuum pump.
Fuel leak ... ...can form. the end result of such fractures mean the car will take AGES to start, although i used to park facing DOWNHILL when problems occured and this eased the starting problems when a pipe was on its way out. there is a fix for these though and that is to put the fuel leak off pipes from a vectra C 2.0 DTi on as these were not rubber (largely) and thus are less likely to leave you stuck!
Vaccum pump- this lies at the top of the engine. as anyone ...

Possibly the worst car I have ever driven
Advantages: It didn't let the rain in Disadvantages: terrible comfort, performance and economy
...I gave it back.
Vauxhall are very good at re-hashing all their old designs and making them look different but in the thirty years I have been driving a wide variety of cars they still have not improved basic comfort.
Performance is decidedly average, there would be no need to worry about G force when accelerating hard. I found the brakes a bit spongy but they did the job. all in all I cannot recommend the vectra estate when there are so many better ...

Jeremy Clarkson Vindicated....Not
Advantages: Economy, Performance, Styling (for an estate) Disadvantages: Load Area, Radio Aerial
In October 1999 I eagerly awaited the arrival of my new company car. I knew it was to be a two litre Vectra and had driven the 1.8 previously and found it comfortable and fairly swift on the motorways.
The hire vehicle which I'd been using, a Nissan Primera, had significantly failed to impress so now I was quite eager for something else.
I've never truly been a fan of the Estate car but upon seeing the Vectra I found myself appreciating the manner ... ...end into the lines of the vehicle. Six months later I still can't say that I find the car as ugly as say a Mondeo Estate.
The performance from the 2.0 16v unit is perfectly adequate for all but the most extreme manoevers. Passing a HGV in the middle lane is little problem from almost anywhere in the rev-range. I have found that the car's handling is significantly degraded without some form of loading in the back. Keeping the fuel tank topped up ...

My new Vauxhall Vectra
Advantages: Easy to drive, fast and comfortable Disadvantages: Expensive on diesel
After having a pretty old Renault Clio with no power steering for my first car, I was pretty nervous as a 19 yr old female to be getting a big 2.0 diesel estate car! However after having the car for a couple of months, I am so pleased I bought it!
For the bargain price of £500 for an 'S' reg Vectra, the car is fantastic. It is an 2.0 Turbo diesel CDTI.
With regards to handling, the car drives smoothly and reacts pretty well. For a big car, it picks ... ...got the car, it had done 144,000 miles and had 2 previous owners. Considering the mileage, it only had a few jobs come up to pass MOT, including brakes, steering pulling to the left. This and a few other jobs cost approx £150 from a mechanic we use regularly. Unfortunately I havnt had another service in the car, so couldnt give costs for that.
A very reliable car, although a little expensive on diesel- approx £45 for a full tank. The interior of ...
