Bought one of these cars myself, thinking they looked nice (which they do). Since that day I sort of regret it. It is a nice car, quite fun to drive but can have a lot of problems.
A common problem with Vectra's that I found out after the purchase was that they often need a non-return valve fitted to the engine. For no reason at all, and at the most inappropiate of times, you find yourself going out to your car to start it up and it just won't fire up. According to the mechanics the fuel is running back from the engine to the tank, so basically no fuel is available to start it up. I'm not sure if this was a 'random' fault on mine due to the fact that it had been into a garage to get a new turbo head, and maybe one of the mechanics that were tinkering with the engine didn't do something properly.
At present I reside in a small village surrounded by hills and have found the vehicle to be very un-economical. I seem to use a lot of fuel going to and from work, about a 20 min journey each way. From my own experience my fuel needle seems to drop rapidly and I find myself having to fuel up often. Maybe it's because I have to change gear quite often and if this is the case then I only recommend this car for people who commute on motorways where little gear change is required.
The interior is nice and spacious, the interior was one reason I thought I liked this car. However, I now find it quite uncomfortable on the drivers seat. Vauxhall thought it a good idea to put one of those 'back rests' in, where you have a knob to turn and the 'rest' moves in or out against the small of the back. Personally I don't like it so have it in as much as possible, yet you can still feel it over every bump. A few times I have complained about my back hurting from this device. I'm just very thankful for the CD player, which when on a loud volume can drowned the engine noise!
A final note, although not limited to just Vauxhall's, is the damn ABS. It is not a worthy contraption that is more problem than the one it is supposed to stop. My journey to work involves one steep downhill with a nice tight S-bend. On snowy days it is a nightmare. Where as I would like to stop, even if I slide just a little I don't mind because the tyres eventually get traction, the ABS has over ideas and speeds me up. It then becomes a fight between you and the ABS, having to constantly pump the brake pedal. As you do you pick up speed. A very dangerous thing if you need to stop when a car is approcahing and instead of stopping you go faster.
Only buy this car if you intend to travel on motorways often and don't meet any snow or hills.

Living in Wales where there is usually lots of snow and wales, it doesn't sound as if this would be the car for me. Maureen
