Advantages: Great drive Disadvantages: Economy suffers when driven hard.
I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender.
The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies ... ...in general driving situations.
While the Vectra has yet to reach the NCAP safety ratings of 5* acheived by manufacturers such as Renault, I would suggest that improved handling offered by a Vectra over a competetive model would actually reduce your need for this higher rating. I always felt that I could fully trust the brakes on the Sri, which I cannot say for other similar cars I have driven.

However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies that Sri badge. The car feels really safe cornering and in general driving situations.

The cockpit is reasonable - perhaps a little bland for some, but better than, say, a lower spec BMW. The boot is a good size and the syling is easy to live with. Front electric windows only, which I was dissapointed with. It's nice being able to wind down a rear window from the driving position.
The Vectra is high wasted, and I would say that visibility is not the greatest. The seat is very adjustable though, so this can be compensated for to some degree.
I found that economy, particularly on motorway driving, was good. However, the car is very responsive and any aggressive driving does have a penaly in economy. I averaged around 55mpg, with around 80% motorway driving. I could push this to about 57mpg with very carefull driving.
During my time with these vehicles, I experienced no faults in any area. The car is solidly built and exudes an air of quality.

Quick review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 1.9CDTi
I recently hired this car and have been extremely impressed by it. There is plenty of room all round
for driver and passenger and the boot is more than adequite.
Mine was the 1.9 SRI CDTI 16v model which was more than powerful enough for me, reaching 0-60 in 4 seconds.
The interior features were impressive as was the fuel consumption at an average of 49 mpg!
the only complaint about this car would be the 6 speed manual gearbox. I was impressed by the ratio's of the gears but the box its self was extremely chunky and bulky.
overall though a very impressive vehicle, well done vauxhall!! ...

Advantages: Styling, Wide range of engines, Decent mpg figures Disadvantages: 2006 model had gone downhill
...have always fancied owning a Vauxhall Vectra.
Why, what makes it so good?
I believe it's a combination of a vast range of engines which give you some great mpg figures and the wide range of trim levels which provide you with a good handful of extras as standard.
More about the styling...
Although the new styling which was introduced back in 2002 was rather radical at the time compared with older models, it still had that lack-lustre effect like ... ...top of the standard equipment, Vauxhall had introduced some rather luxury items such as Adaptive Forward Lighting ( Directional Bi-Xenons), Electric Memory Seats and Mirrors, Electric Folding Mirrors, Electronic Climate Control (ECC) and Leather Trimmed Seats.
So why am I vexed?
In 2006 Vauxhall decided to give the Vectra another face-lift which included new headlights as seens on the New Astra and gave a few tweaks to it's engines and gearboxes.

Advantages: Economy, seats, performance, service intervals, looks. Disadvantages: Needs 4 elec windows and climate control.
57 PLATE SRI CDTI 150ps.
Covered 4000 trouble free miles. Excellent supportive seats, all my driving is in rush hour heavy traffic and I estimate 38-40 mpg. Preformance should be fine for every one except the hard core boy racers. Corners very well and apparently the suspension has been tuned for our pathetic roads (for which we pay a high premium to enable us to use them). Service intervals are long (20,000 miles). Space in the cabin I find adequate ...
