OUR VAUXHALL ZAFIRA DUAL FUEL

The Vauxhall Zafira was launched in 1999 with the 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol or 2.0 Di diesel engines. Air conditioning was standard in all but the entry level model. However, in 2000 the entry or base level was discontinued and the Zafira was left with the Club, Comfort and Elegance models. In April 2002 the Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) / petrol dual fuel option was introduced with a 1.8 litre engine and by August 2002 a 1.6 litre LPG dual fuel option arrived in Comfort trim only. Later in the year there were 1.6 and 1.8-litre LPG Design dual fuel models available.
The Zafira was innovative when it was launched. Seven seats over three rows were squeezed into the people carrier, but due to the pioneering Flex7 system, you could fold up to five of them to suit any journey. Safe handling is also ideal for drivers who want stability and predictable road manners. On the exterior the Zafira doesn't look exciting, but it has stood the test of time, and it has proved to be a reliable choice for many families.
OUR VAUXHALL ZAFIRA DUAL FUEL
We have had the Vauxhall Zafira since 2004. Initially the innovation of "seven" seats in an mpv (in this price range of car) made it very attractive for use with ferrying family and friends about. However, the sixth and seventh seats are only really appropriate for use by young children and our family tend to grow to over six feet tall. Also the boot space left when the car is changed into seven seater mode is minimal.
The above stated this is still a very good family car. For five people on holiday, long journeys can be achieved in comfort and the roof bars on the design enable a roof box to be attached with ease - for those with "extra" luggage needs.
Our Zafira is Dual Fuel and operating on autogas does save money and benefits the envrionment. We have found that the availability of autogas around the country can be patchy, but details of filling station locations can be found on the internet. Even if the worst should occur and the autogas should run out you still have a full "reserve" tank of petrol to fall back on. Of course there isn't a spare tyre either as the autogas fuel tank is located in the void where this is normally stored. Should a puncture occur a temporary inflation can be achieved using some "goo", but it is fair to say this is no substitute for a real spare tyre.
Despite the negatives (which are more practical issues with dual fuel) using autogas is good economy, especially with the pump price at around 40 pence per litre. I estimate that for £15 worth of LPG our Zafira will average around 200 miles.
