My girlfriend and I bought a New mark two Corsa Club 2001 model in October 2000.We had been waiting for the new car to be launched since we saw photographs of the new model in Autoexpress magazine in April.
We had a old shape 5 door 1500 diesel corsa ,in a nice metallic blue colour to put in part exchange. It only had 80000 miles on it and still had a long tax and test so we where shocked to find the first dealer only offer us £1100 after speaking to the manager to get us a good deal.I maybe daft , but when I know that you do not get change for one under £2000 even at the auctions unless it mega mileage or a cop car, I wasnot going to take that. This garage was Bristol street motors in city centre Newcastle. We then tried Vauxhall Priory on the Felling Bypass in Gateshead and was kindly met by Alistair Beattie a sales consultant. He didnot try to pull the wool over my eyes and tried to get me in a more expensive model or anything. He also gave us £1850 trade in for our old beastie which I was happy with.He gave correct advice about the engines performance , service etc.One thing I was worried about was driving a 1.0 litre three cylinder car.I was worried it would be slow and wouldnot pull the skin of a rice pudding. His answer was to arrange a test drive as soon as the model was launched, and true to his word he arranged a drive in the exact model we where interested in buying.More importantly he didnot hurry us while test driving the car.We both drove for just under an hour and didnot mind me putting the car through its paces.I was happy with the result and bought the car.
We took delivery of the car two weeks later, but had problems with it.We put the complaint in writing and said we didnot want the car repairing. So he kindly arranged another car to be ordered. We had our new new car delivered without any problems two weeks later, and for the two weeks in between was lent a first generation new Corsa free of charge. In the mean time Bristol street motors old garage kept calling seeing if I was interested in parting with my money.I told him I had a better deal on the part exchange, and he offer to match it saying he could offer that.Thing is if I had taken the first offer of £1100 I would have been out of pocket by £750 quid.If he had offered me that he would have had a sale the same day...as it is B*llocks to Bristol street.
I will recommend Priory garage to buy cars from, I enjoyed dealing with Alistair Beattie and cannot remember being it like that in the past.Well done Priory

Its nice to hear of a garage that gives good service, but all the things that you mention should really be taken for granted. I would have been mad as hell if I bought a new car and then had to wait another 2 weeks for a replacement. Free car while you wait or not.

Just goes to show that if you shop around then you'll find someone who's human. I never buy anything from anyone who treats me like a second class citizen or stupid ;)
