I was brave on Friday night – extremely brave. I’d been toying with the idea for ages and ages of getting some DIY waxing strips. Most of my friends regularly get themselves waxed in various places, spending a fortune at posh salons in the process, but I tend to just stick to my tired old razor, or if I’ve got a lot of time on my hands and I want to feel a bit ‘extra’ smooth, I opt for nicking my mum’s Immac.

I figured this was a pretty good buy as they normally retail at £6.99 for 20. The box proudly promised me they’d give me “eternally smooth” legs and that they were extremely easy to use. I quickly picked them up before I changed my mind and grabbed a bottle of wine, which I guessed I’d need beforehand (and possibly afterwards) to ease the pain of the waxing experience.
Once home, I popped in the shower then got to reading the instructions in the handy leaflet which comes inside the box. There is a long list of ‘precautions’ you must take notice of before using these little monsters, i.e. to test an area of skin before use, especially if you are sensitive / allergic to certain ingredients in the product. I quickly scanned the instructions but was too impatient to test a little strip beforehand and decided to just be brave and GO FOR IT!!
I was very impressed with the cute little ‘perfect finish’ wipes, which come in a separate little pack. These are designed for mopping up any excess wax, which may run out from under the waxing strip. These strips are not suitable for use on your face (not that I have a hairy face) but can be used under arms or on the bikini line, so I guessed they must be fairly gentle and not too painful to use … how wrong I was!
Before I got properly started I ran downstairs and poured myself a hefty glass of wine and had a couple of slugs. I checked my legs were dry, as the instructions recommend, with no oil or lotion on the skin. The idea is that you warm the waxing strip between your hands before applying to the skin, so I sat warming them for probably a little longer than I needed to, had another (large) sip of wine, took a deep breath and slapped it onto my hairy little leg.
The strips are approximately 10cm wide by about 20cm long and they have a little wax free bit at the top which is the bit you have to take a hold of when you tug it off your skin. I tried not to think about what I was doing and just went for it as quickly as I possibly could. The pain was hideous. I don’t know if I have a very low pain threshold but I screamed so loud my dad shouted upstairs to ask me if I was okay. I yelled back downstairs that I was fine, had another mouthful of wine and carried on with the waxing process. The noise they made as they ripped off my skin was probably almost as bad as the pain – it sounded like I was ripping off my own skin. One leg done and one more to go. I’d drunk all of the wine in my glass so I hobbled downstairs for a refill and a bit more Dutch courage. On the way back upstairs I noticed my leg was starting to tingle quite a lot. Once I’d reached the bathroom I saw my leg was red and looked quite inflamed. I decide to hold off from doing the other leg for a bit and took my glass of wine into my room to text my friend Sarah to tell her brave I was being.
During the course of my conversation my leg was tingling more and more and the desire to scratch was intense. I glanced down at my shin and could see that it was really a nasty shade of purplish red and all the little hair follicles were standing on end – probably in shock! Parts of my leg looked as though it had broken capillaries and I shouted for mum to come upstairs to have a look to see what she thought. Mum said that she thought my leg looked bruised and she suggested that I should hold off from doing the other one until the next day just to see if my right leg settled down a bit.
For about the next couple of hours my leg really bothered me and the desire to scratch it took a long time to stop. The following morning it had settled down, my leg was lovely and smooth but there were still signs of tiny little purple veins. For this reason I decided to just use a shaver on my hairy leg as I was going out that night and couldn’t risk a tingling red leg on my big night out!!
It’s Monday night now and my poor old leg looks pretty much back to normal. My left leg feels a bit stubbly from my razor but my right leg is extremely soft, silky and smooth. All in all, not a product I would choose to use again – it’s far too painful and I think waxing is probably best left to the professionals. I have 38 waxing strips left and my brother has asked me if he can have them. I told him he can, with pleasure and I shall look forward to his screams of agony at the weekend as he waxes his chest – at least I think it’s his chest he has in mind!!
Advantages: Remove hairs, bargain Disadvantages: Doesn't remove as many as hot wax, pain
...I picked up these from Veet on my next visit to Tesco. WHERE TO BUY: I bought the shea butter and berry variety of the strips from Tesco where they were on offer at the time. You can also pick these up in other supermarkets and pharmacies, including Boots and Superdrug. While they may not all stock the shea butter and berry ones they all seem to stock at least one variety and they all seem to do the same job. PRICE: The price depends on when you ... ...They do seem to be on offer quite a bit as well. EXPERIENCE: Ok, I've bought the strips and I'm ready. I've managed to get plastered in preparation for the pain of doing this myself (I don't really drink but this had me seriously thinking about it!). On opening the box I'm confronted with 20 strips, four perfect finish wipes which come in their own foil packets and an instruction leaflet. The instructions tell you to test a patch on your skin with ...

Advantages: Removes hair from the root. Disadvantages: Leaves some behind.
...Afew years ago I found Veet wax strips. Not quite the professional look but good enough for me and more importantly, much cheaper.
I began using them regularly. I would have discussions with a friend who would have her legs professionally waxed every six weeks. When my Veet strips didn`t remove all of the hairs, I toyed with the idea of paying to have them all ripped out in one go professionally. I rapidly changed my mind when I realised the difference ... ...Veet wax strips are ready to use wax strips. They come in packs of 20 but 20 actually means10 double sided strips. Two are stuck together so you need to use 2 at a time at least, or should I say, an even number as you can`t put one back in the box. They are ready to use, not like some home wax kits that you can buy where you spend ages messing around with wax. They are quick and simple, put them on, rip them off, quick as that! Also contained in ...

...But Not About This!!!
Veet Ready to Use Wax Strips.
For Dry Skin.
Introduction
Let me be clear about one thing before we get started with this review. I don’t think women should feel obliged to be smooth all over and as hair free as a … well… a hair free person is. The world we live in operates in such a way as to make us feel we need to be a certain way, and in order to get us to that certain state of “normal”, we have to spend our pennies on ... ...they decided to call it Veet I’ll never know, but I’m sure someone got paid big bucks to think it all through!
The Product
The idea of this product is that you have ready to use wax strips to remove unwanted body hair from your legs, underarms and bikini line. Inside your box of tricks you have 20 wax strips, which look like just ten when you open the box and count, but are actually in doubles – so two wax strips, stuck together, and you peel them ...

Veet Facial Waxing Strips
****************************
For those of you who are new to waxing, this may not be the most encouraging first choice - I suppose, shaving is the easiest or even plucking, though fairly painful and potentially takes forever.
What is it?
***********
Waxing strips for hair removal. A solidified liquid wax the size of a wooden ice-cream stick is encased between two plastic sheets. The pack refers to facial waxing strips ... ...of the body such as underarms, bikini line and touch-ups. For the face, the strips can be used for the upper lip, chin and centre brow. How do I use them?
*********************
It is usually best to test on a small area first to check for any sensitivities. Normally, if you have not waxed before, it is best to start waxing on the legs before attempting on the facial area in order to gain sufficient skill.
First , make sure the skin area is thoroughly ...

Advantages: Easy to use and effective Disadvantages: A little pricey if you use them all the time, need more finishing wipes!
...I decided to try these veet wax strips instead. I have tried waxing before where you have to heat the wax up and then have material strips to pull it off with, but I was really unsuccessful with them and made such a mess! These seemed like an easy alterative and there has been really good write ups in magazines about them so I thought I should try them out too!
There are a couple of different version of these strips now (also brought out by 'Veet') ... ...skin, which are the ones I am reviewing.
The strips come in a yellow cardboard packet with 'Veet' written across the front of it. Each strip has a thin layer blue wax on it, this means that all you have to do is apply them to your legs and pull them off. This is ready to use wax and there is no heating it up, it is so simple and easy to use.
The strips are organised so that two strips are stuck together (wax side to wax side) but are easy enough ...

Advantages: Easy to use, quick Disadvantages: Painful
I've heard so many bad things about Veet's readytousewaxstrips, but I got a free sample so I used it. Imagine my suprise when it worked lol. I buy the waxstrips for normal skin and always have great results, that are long lasting.
The waxstrips for normal skin have mint in, to sooth and refresh the skin after its been waxed. In a box there are 20 waxstrips and 4 Perfect finish wipes. It costs £5.99 for a pack from Boots.
The veetwaxstrips will work on hair as short as 2mm, which is about 2 weeks worth of hair growth, but it is better to wait for 4 weeks, as I tend to find if I wax after 2 weeks I need towax again 2 weeks later, if I leave it 4 weeks I don't need towax again for 4 weeks.
A lot of the complaints I have heard about the waxstrips is they don't pull all the hair out, and bruising. The waxstrips are easy ...
Advantages: gets rid of hair easily and kinda plump lips lol Disadvantages: hurts like a b****
this product is meant to be for people who have sensitive skin which means people whos skin flares up or irriates easily. this product removes hair after one or two strips on same area. but my upper lip jus flares up and actually looks asif ive had botox haha.....
but it does remove hair effectively and it provides you with some wipes touseto wipe wax away. they only give about 5 which isnt alot to be honest. they should give one for each strip in the box. if you run out of wipes just use some baby oil on cotton wool and wipe over area. and don't put any cream or make up on it for 24areas because you open up all the pores after waxing and its just prone to attracting dirt so just keep it clean.
i got mine on sale but you can get them for around £4-6 depends on the shops.
if you don't like the pain then i recommend you try ...
Advantages: none Disadvantages: hard to use and irritated my skin
I've used many hair removal products over the years, but none have proved to be as painful as this. The wax was not the right consistancy and it took me ages to figure out the best way touse it ... and i'm practically a pro at using home waxing kits. It took repeated atempts to remove the hair.
There was no adverse reaction after carrying out the skin reaction test, but it irritated my skin when i used it on my face. I used it last night and my skin is STILL red, bumpy and very sore.
The finishing wipes left a horrible oily residue on my skin which i had to take off with SOAP because my normal cleanser could not remove it.
I would not recommend this product, though it is very reasonably priced - you get what you pay for and I won't be buying cheap again. ...
