I have only had my legs professionally waxed once, years ago. At the time I was amazed how this was removed all of the hairs in one go and they didn`t grow back for a few weeks. That was the one and only time, I didn`t think it hurt much, it was effective but, too expensive. In those days, when there were more important things to spend my money on (there still are), it was much cheaper and easier to shave. Afew years ago I found Veet waxstrips. Not quite the professional look but good enough for me and more importantly, much cheaper.
I began using them regularly. I would have discussions with a friend who would have her legs professionally waxed every six weeks. When my Veet strips didn`t remove all of the hairs, I toyed
with the idea of paying to have them all ripped out in one go professionally. I rapidly changed my mind when I realised the difference in price.
Veet wax strips are ready to use wax strips. They come in packs of 20 but 20 actually means10 double sided strips. Two are stuck together so you need to use 2 at a time at least, or should I say, an even number as you can`t put one back in the box. They are ready to use, not like some home wax kits that you can buy where you spend ages messing around with wax. They are quick and simple, put them on, rip them off, quick as that! Also contained in the box ar 4 finishing wipes.
They are very simple to use. You need to make sure you legs are clean and non-greasy, you wouldn`t do it after moisturising you legs for example. Firstly you need to warm the strips for afew seconds between your hands. This is because sometimes when you pull them apart, there is more was on one strip, making the other one useless. You then put them on your legs in a downward motion, patting them to make sure they are on properly. You then rip them off quickly, from the bottom. You need to rip them off as quickly as you can to be effective, ignoring any pain.
Are they effective? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They are not as effective as professional waxing. The wax strips do remove hair but they also leave some behind. I use the same strip over and over again until it is covered in hair before throwing it away. I probaby only use about 2 double sided was strips for both legs. This is because I have been doing it for ages and apparently the hair does not grow back as thick. If you were doing it for the first time, it would take more than 2 double sided strips.
There are always some hairs left after using the strips. Sometimes I pluck the remaining ones out with tweasers.
They leave behind some of the blue was on your legs. This comes off easily with one of the 4 finishing wipes which are also supposed to soothe your legs afterwards. I have often wondered why there are only 4 wipes, it would be better if there were more.
The hair does not grow back again for about 6 weeks.
Are they cost effective? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The strips cost about £6.99 for the 20. The length of time that they last would depend on whether you are as stingy as me and use them to their max. You may use more than me when you first start. The hair doesn`t grow back for about 6 weeks so they don`t need to be used very often. In comparison with shaving, they are more expensive. However, shaving needs to be done much more frequently which can get a bit tedious to say the least. In comparison with professional waxing in a salon, I would say it is cheap, though I can`t remember what it costs.
Are they painful? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have known people to say that the Veet Wax strips are too painful to use, they have tried it once and never again. I think most people with an average pain threshold won`t have a problem using them.
Would I recommend? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well yes, as long as you are not expecting your legs to be baby smooth afterwards. If you are expecting afew hairs to remain then you won`t be too disappointed. Most people have tweasers to pluck out the remainder. I used them for years. The only reason I don`t use them now is because I have recently started using an epilator. If I hadn`t discovered the epilator then I would still be using them. Veet also does mini wax strips for the bikini line. Now I did find this a bit painful so don`t do it. Also it left a rash, I thought the area was a bit sensitive.
The only thing I would recommend is do not use the sensitive wax strips. They just do not work. With these the wax tends to stick to your skin and doesn`t remove hair. I have found the same with other makes of wax strips. They are ineffective. Veet wax strips are by far the best.

I recently remover some of these free in a trial - never again lol. Not only were they painful (and i dont consider myself to have a particually low threshold) but after one use they became virtually uneffective - and there was stubble remaining. Will stick to shaving, but good review! x x x
