Not wanting to pay full price to get my legs waxed at a salon, and about to go on holiday, I decided to try these veet wax strips instead. I have tried waxing before where you have to heat the wax up and then have material strips to pull it off with, but I was really unsuccessful with them and made such a mess! These seemed like an easy alterative and there has been really good write ups in magazines about them so I thought I should try them out too!
There are a couple of different version of these strips now (also brought out by 'Veet') but I have the ones with mint extracts for normal skin,
which are the ones I am reviewing.
The strips come in a yellow cardboard packet with 'Veet' written across the front of it. Each strip has a thin layer blue wax on it, this means that all you have to do is apply them to your legs and pull them off. This is ready to use wax and there is no heating it up, it is so simple and easy to use.
The strips are organised so that two strips are stuck together (wax side to wax side) but are easy enough to pull apart. It is designed so that there will be no wax leaking or exposed wax. I think it is quite clever and economic that they are packaged in this way, but if you only want to use one strip (for some reason) then you would either just have to use the other strip, or throw it away.. or put it in a cupboard face up so that nothing would get stuck on it! The wax is really sticky so you have to be quite careful not to touch the actual wax as you are pulling them apart or applying them to your skin.
Each strip is about 20cm long and 10 cm wide. The wax doesn't go all the way to the edges so there is room for you to grab hold of the end of the strip so you can pull them off easily.
I am really impressed with these strips. On the front of the pack it says that you can use them on hair that is 2mm long and I have always found them to be really effective. I find that they remove all of the hairs where I have applied the strip, there are no little stubborn hairs left on my legs. They remove the hair right from the root, which means that the hair takes a lot longer to grow back than if you are shaving. My skin does get red after using these but that quickly goes away. It does hurt, but you are ripping the hair out of your legs so I guess that is normal!
In each pack there are also some 'perfect finish' wipes. These are great! If you get any wax left on your legs, all you have to do is use one of these and it comes of straight away. Each finish wipe is in its own little packet, so it stays fresh and moist until you open it. The wipes are single use.
I have the extra value pack of the strips, which works out cheaper per strip than buying the 20 strip pack. The only thing about this is that although you get 40 strips, you only get 4 perfect finish wipes (the same as in the 20 pack) If you only use a few at a time to do your upper legs, for example, you're not going to have enough of the wipes for every time you do your legs.
Another things about the strips is that if you pull them apart too quickly, sometimes the wax from one side of the strip will stick to the other strip so it will be useless since there will be no wax on the strip! And then this makes the wax on the other strip a little too thick to use so it doesn't work properly. This means you have to take care and pull them apart slowly and evenly.
The strips are not suitable for use on your face but you can use them on your legs, arm, underarms and bikini line. You can also get smaller strips for use on your bikini line too, but you have to buy these in a separate pack.
I really like these and use them if I am going on holiday or for special occasion, but other than that I stick to shaving, purely because it is cheaper and quicker than using these!
The wax strips costs £5.79 for a pack of 20 from Boots (but they are on special offer right now for £4.34) I think I paid around £9 for my value pack of 40. I have seen them in Tesco and Superdrug too, at around the same price.
