Advantages Small, Cheap, Light, Tough, Long battery life

Disadvantages Poor quality, Generic camcorder disguised with branding, very basic features

I have had this camcorder now for about 18 months and in that time, it has been a good, but basic camcorder. However I was annoyed to find out that it was generic camera and that Argos were selling the same thing under ALBA branding for £30 less.

Quality

Don't be fooled by the HD offering. This camcorder is anything but. It may capture in a HD resolution but the pictures are slightly grainy and pixelated. For basic family/holiday shots it is ideal, the pictures in bright light are clear, albeit slightly grainy.
For anything in less than bright sunlight the camera will struggle and the quality will start to seriously deteriorate.
The sound quality is terrible, mono sound at a low bitrate through an awful microphone.
Personally, for anything other that a brief bit of holiday recording, look elsewhere.
Build Quality

Despite its cheapness (£70 Veho, £40 Alba), it is actually quite well built and looks like it would survive a hard knock or drop. The screen feels a little flimsy but the rest seems very solid.

Software

I cannot comment on the Veho software as I have never used it.
However for editing, be warned, I have had problems with this camcorder. It uses an obscure AVI format that many editors won't accept. The files also take a very long time to open on the PC, no matter how powerful it is.
The onboard menu's are very basic, many of the features seem not to work.
Features

This camcorder has its basic camcorder function with three quality settings, ranging from VGA, D1 and HD.
There is also a 12 megapixel (they claim) camera, but all the photos I have taken are not of high quality and are generally blurred.
A strange feature is that of an MP3 player built in, however I found that when I used this feature it would turn off after 5 mins to save power.
It has a mini HDMI out port and comes with a cable and this works very well and can even be used in conferences where you would need your face on a big screen.
It is a headphone socket that doubles up as an AV out port, and again this works very well.
The camera has a very small internal memory and an SD card slot supporting SDHC cards. There is also a Mini A USB port on top for computer connection.
There are no other features apart form a torch thing which is completely useless in all circumstances.
It comes with some form of antishake built in and comes with 4x digital zooms, but no other software features.

Battery Life

The battery life if very good, it will run for hours and not complain. Charging time is very quick also and can be charged from a high power USB port on a pc.

This is a budget camera and it shows. Ideal for holiday videos and personal things but for professional use look elsewhere.
