Having recently splashed out on a shiny new Xbox 360 for my boys, I decided that I wanted them to have all they would need to enjoy their gaming experience, so bit by bit I've been buying the various bits and bobs that accompany the Xbox 360 to make their gaming as good as possible for them. One of the things I decided to buy them was this Venom twin charging cradle.
What it is
This little device is basically a chunk of black oblong shaped plastic, molded in such a way that two Xbox 360 wireless controllers can sit nice and neatly on it, one behind the other, which they do and look very neat and tidy, that's a big plus from me for a start, I like things to look neat. On the front of the device are two little lights one for each controller, which glow red until the battery is charged and then they turn green to let you know the controller is ready to use. At the back of the device is a mini USB port, this is where the USB cable (that is provided and is about 2 meters long) slots in while the other bigger end of the USB cable slots into the Xbox 360 itself. Along with the little charging device come two rechargeable battery packs, these in my opinion are a god send, they save me so much money, it's unreal. These little battery packs obviously slot perfectly on to the back of the wireless controllers. Everything's neat and tidy and I'm happy.
Charging the batteries
From dead, I'd say the batteries take a few, maybe 4 hours to charge, I can't say exactly how much game play time you get from the fully charged batteries, but I do know it seems to be an awful long time, the box says up to 18 hours of game play and I can well believe it, as it seems to be forever before the batteries need charging again. The batteries continue to charge from the Xbox 360 even when the Xbox 360 is on standby, which is great because my boys can make sure at least one of the controllers is ready to use at all times. The batteries can be charged either on their own just by slotting them onto the cradle or whilst attached to the controller. I have tried charging both ways but find the battery packs on their own are quite light and tend to slip and stop charging, so we leave the battery packs connected to the controllers and charge that way.
Wireless is the way to go
Before going ahead and buying this little device, I read many reviews for different sorts of charging units for the Xbox 360 wireless controllers. Apparently the "Plug and Play" charging device is very popular, a little more expensive though, but after reading reviews about how great this plug and play actually was, I thought to myself, if it's so great being able to continue playing while your controller charges, why waste money on a wireless controller in the first place, if people are happy playing with a wire connecting the controller to the Xbox 360, why not just buy a wired controller in the first place. But hey, that's just my opinion. I wanted to have less wires trailing all over the place, not more and so by opting to buy this charging device I've got all I wanted, no ugly wires, as the USB cable is tucked away neatly, a rather stylish looking cradle where the controllers sit when the Xbox 360 is not in use, even if their not charging as I unplug the mini USB cable from the back of the device when they are charged and the controllers sit looking nice and neat on the cradle.
Worth every penny
We are all pleased with the charging device because it's a win win situation for us. My boys are happy they never run out of batteries for their controllers, I'm happy because it looks neat, it works well, it saves me money and I don't have wires trailing all over the room. This little charging unit is a must in my opinion if you like playing for hours on your Xbox 360. Well worth the money I paid which incidentally was £12.72 from Amazon but now they are selling for £9.99 having been reduced. The quality of the charging device is not brilliant, but for the price it's worth it and once your wireless controllers are sat upon it, the whole thing in my opinion looks great.I personally would recommend buying one of these to any Xbox 360 gamer. You will save yourself so much money in the long run and I can honestly say this little charging device will not disappoint.
I'm giving this charging device 5 stars as it's perfect, so much so that I would have paid more for it had I needed to and I don't say that about many things.
Thank you for reading my review which may also be posted on other sites.
