Advantages: So far they're 100% problem-free Disadvantages: Never say never with CD-Rs
data other than music are best used for burning audio onto and it is this format that is used widely in the copying and burning of MP3s onto listenable CDs.
WHAT DOES A CD-R NEED TO BE ABLE TO WORK?
Three things.
1. A computer.
2. A rewritable drive, not just your bog standard CD-ROM drive.
3. Burning software. This is usually available free from the net at places like download.com and enables you to put your MP3s in the right order ready for burning.
WHAT DOES THE 650 MEAN IN THE PRODUCT TITLE?
There are two types of CD-R size. A 650 and a 700. These numbers correspond to the number of megabytes of space available. As a general rule, for music burners, a 650 will hold 74 minutes of music whilst a 700 will hold 80 minutes of music. In this instance, it's the lesser of the options but what six minutes (or one ...
media, rated as 48x writing. This means that those of you with a reasonably new CD-writer can make use of it's fast write speed, myself included. It doesn't mean though, that those with an older writer, can't use them - you can of course, but at a slower speed than me (down to 1x speed). 700Mb is a lot of space. You are of course not limited to storing what I have mentioned, you can backup anything you want.
These disks come with full jewel cases, packed in boxes of 10, but again other options are available. Each one is ...
Advantages: Quality, Longevity Disadvantages: Price compared to bulk spindles
! Thats right, a warranty on CDRs (full details of the warranty are on the paper inlay in each CD's case)! I couldn't believe it either - luckily I've never had to use the warranty. These really are high quality disks - I liked them so much I went back and picked up another 2 packs! These CDRs are made with a special 'protective layer' which helps to protect them from UV light and other nasties. It seems to work a treat - I've not had one die on me yet, and not a single write error.
The CDRs themselves are 32 speed and have a 700mb capacity, and no doubt more with overburn but I've not tried that with these CDRs. A qucik probe of one of them with Linux revelas they are catagory A, Long Stratergy. They are made in Japan. The recording surface is a nice rich cyan colour, whist the print side is completely covered in a white surface so ...
