They are used as re-writable disc for temporarily storing holiday photos, documents, electronic statements/bills etc until nearly a DVD full --> burn into DVD+/-R disc. Also, they are temporary recording of TV programmes using my DVD recorder. Most of them are used regularly since 2004. Almost 5 years on none of them shows any sign of failure.
Everything is still retrievable e.g. one directory of my photos taken back in Dec 2004 and stored in a pair of them (double backup) are still okay. I can copy all the photos to my PC and still can see them (both discs tried to make sure). Therefore these discs can last for more than 4 years from the date of purchase, with the date of manufacture well before that. They have been tested on NEC ND3500 writer, Samsung SH-S182M writer, Liteon HD-740GX DVD recorder - all fine so far.
Media ID:
The media ID for both my 2004 and 2006 batches are MKM A02 and MCC 02RG20 respectively as detected by Nero DiscSpeed. On the videohelp.com website, the media ID MKM A02 got mixed results from 1 reviewer. For the media ID MCC02RG20, good results from the majority of 101 reviewers.
In contrast, I have bought some Imation DVD+RW and DVD-RW. They were awful. That is another review.
Downside:
Of course the downside is that Verbatim DVD media are at a premium. For the 2004 batch, it was £9.99 for 10. Fortunately in 2006 I spotted a bargain by accident - £5.98 for 10 delivered.
Advantages: Excellent Thermal Stability, Excellent Quality Disadvantages: You pay slightly more, but it's worth it.
...now have three of them) Verbatim make the most stable media i have come across.
I have tried the following brands:
Memorex
Datasafe
Datawrite
Imation
Infiniti
Ritek
Ridata
Panasonic
TDK and
Sony
Some of these were adequate, some were good, and some were downright a waste of money (Datasafe). But i have found the most stable media to be Verbatim, and that's all i will now use for DVD media.
I use them in both my computers DVD-writer and ... ...recorder in Sept 2003), and Verbatim is by far and away the most stable. But what do i mean by stable. I mean the number of failed burn attempts, or corrupted discs due to temperature, handling etc. I have found that some discs seem very prone to failing if they are recorded to at warm temperatures, which are common if my recorder has been on all day and recording for a couple of hours. I quite often had the end of a DVD fail, in the last ten minutes ...

...to say about this pack. Verbatim always had good CDs and DVDs. But the last 3 dvds just didn't did their jobs... Maybe it's just my computer that burns really bad dvds or just my program for burning them.... It's also posible that I have DVD player that isn't so good. I really don't know but i know that my Verbatim DVDs keep stopping... I keep them in boxes, so they aren't damaged. I will decide if I will keep buying them or not. There are other ...
