A revolutionary new phase change optical recording material; Super Eutectic Recording Layer (SERL) is behind the success of Verbatim's CD-RW disc. This high technology material ensures smooth switching between record/erase phases along with high thermal stability in the recording layer. This stability in the recording layer translates into high reliability, low signal noise and long-term archive stability.
Advantages: cheap, good name, reliable Disadvantages: found not quite yet
...I have a Mirai 12r10rw - and I've used a variety of media - I've never actually had a problem writing to any of them, however, It could just be me, but Verbatims seems a lot less 'damagable'
- I'm impressed with the protective layer that they have, which means that it's a little harder to scratch them - important when you are as disorganised as I am!!! - plus, I can get from for £50 for 100 80 mins.... and for 50p a CD (including a Jewel case) I need not look for another media !...

Advantages: Multi-format, Dual layer, High density burn. Disadvantages: Doesn't work on Win XP sp2
...Yet another brilliant budget product
The Optorite DD1205 is a multi format dual layer internal unit. Which boast’s support of many different reading/writing formats,
You’ve got writing speeds of;
12x for dvd+r
8x for dvd-r
2.4x for dvd+rdl I don’t know what this format is so can’t comment.
4x for dvd+rw and dvd-rw
40x for cd-r
24x for cd-rw
There’s also a 24x hd-burn (high density-burn), which I have not used but it allows you to double the amount of data you can store on a normal cd-r disc.
The read speeds for the DD1205 are;
12x for all single layer dvd disc’s
8x for dual layer disc’s
40x for all cd’s
78x for the hd-burn
It also allows the use of both 12cm disc’s (normal size) and 8cm disc’s (reduced size for units such as PVD NOW players etc)
It is an E-IDE / Atapi ultra dma2 compatible device with a 2mb internal buffer size...
