Vespa PX 200

Have recently purchased a Vespa PX200E (2002) after promising myself one for years. The first thing I have been struck with is how easy they are to work on yourself ( I have little scooter know how) with just a manual as a guide. Managed to fit a new exhaust with little problem and most parts are accesible. The downsides so far have been pulling a wheelie in the busy streets of london while getting used to the clutch and some unexplained oil leaks. I bought a new PX 200 in March 2002, I have now had it for 18 months. After some minor teething troubles, which the dealer sorted out perfectly, it has been supremely reliable. It has so far covered some 7000 miles. Its performance is good, cruising at 65mph, is very comfortable and returns some 60 to 65 mpg. This is the scooter to own if you like that sort of transport as its style is recognisable worldwide and being made from metal makes it very durable; just keep it in good condition or they do rust. In India we used to get the masked brand of vespa until some ten years back. Of course they are genuine in Vespa parts and spares but a different brand , however I managed to get this Vespa in a second hand deal, it was by then in a still good condition, I gave it for a single auto service to clean up any faults. It's now almost a brand new baby. Its a 200 cc with good pick up and a mileage of 25* km/L, its robust with steel body and with always a good space for luggage and you have the disc brake on the front and drum on the rear. i owned and drove two of this scooter for six years. i toured Ireland on this scooter The scooter is comfortable for one to tour but the saddle was too short for two up long distance, although it has plenty of carrying capacity for two, with front and rear carrier fitted, plus underseat and glovebox areas. So Vespa let down a good machine by not extending the seat (methinks that Italian designers are small/ short people?) the road holding is scary at first due to nylon tyres being fitted as standard, but i replaced with soft rubber ar first chance.-then no problems. full windscreen is a must ... more
