~~Best not to inVESTA in this~~

Advantages: The box can be recycled
Disadvantages: Where do I begin ?

Whilst doing my usual weekly shop I saw something on the shelf that I hadn't seen in years "Vesta Beef Curry" and what a blast from the past it was too. I believe this was how I was first introduced to curry some 30 years ago (I know I was quite young at the time)

Because of the length of time I was spending taking a nostalgic look and also a trip down memory lane, my son asked what was so special about this box and its contents.
...inadvertently wet his appetite and stirred his curiosity as he asked if he could have one to try.

Even after stressing this would neither look, nor taste anything like the curries he is used to, he still seemed rather excited at the prospect of trying this curry in a box.

Nothing had changed with this 236g product except for the £1.58 price tag. It still came in a black cardboard box printed to make it look like a suit ... more

Not quite a meal in a box

Advantages: Quick and tasty
Disadvantages: Need to add loads of stuff

The final ingredient is some minty dip made with low fat yoghurt, chopped mint and a teaspoon of mango chutney. Home made guacamole sometimes gets made too but also ready made sometimes gets bought. So it's not really a meal in a box. more the start of a meal. Bring back Vesta Beef Curry's Now that really was a meal in a box. ...

Review of Old El Paso Taco Dinner Kit

One of my favourite foods is no more

Advantages: Takes about 10minutes to nuke
Disadvantages: Changed recipe from an exceptional basic curry, to an average Jalfrezi / Rogan Josh sort of style curry

For years, the BirdsEye Chicken Curry was one of my favourite foods (with my Dad having quit stocking my previous favourite curry, The "Vesta Beef Madras" I think it was).... a nice basic curry with a bit of a kick to it. From what I recall there was 2 bags... one with rice, the other with Chicken, Curry sauce + raisins / currants if memory serves me correctly (and it was sodding impossible to get the stains from it off the breadboard if you splashed some of it), with the chicken having a similar taste to that in their "Roast Chicken Dinner" once you'd sucked off the curry sauce. Sometime around 2003/2004 they brought out a new "improved" (my arse) version..... whether it was because they'd got a new person in charge of the curry range, or to keep the food fascists off their back.... or just a result of the restructuring from parent ...
