...Standing in the DJ booth of the nightclub my brother DJ'ed in, I had before me two of these decks and a license to use and abuse to my heart's content. The volume was set to "Damaging", the vinyl was sparkling at me and the three or so remaining customers were too drunk to even know where they were but I was happy. This was to be my first go on Vestax decks. I'd used Technics before this and was stuck on them but I was open-minded and keen to experiment. My first view of them filled me with anticipation. They looked solidly built, attractive and the straight tone-arm was appealing. There are buttons galore but they all have easy to use functions and there's little there that you wouldn't use at some point during your aural escapades. ...The most important thing about the Vestax VCI-100 is that is extremely sturdy and will last a very long time, The unit is heavy and sits nicely on a good desk. The VCI-100 is primarily a midi control unit, using the digital dj Traktor as its dj program. It contains two virtual decks which can be used in a number of creative ways to do things which replicate that of real vinyl decks. There is a number of functions for the creative dj such as looping features and effects with parameters for changing things such as delay length, reverb, flanger, and other effects are also included but as a slight nag, are not independent of each deck and will effect both at the same time. ...The technics decks have been known as the "the best decks" for many years, but over the past year there have been many new decks that have been brought out that in my opinon are better that the technics. For example the Vestax PDX-2000 and the Vestax PDX-d3s are in my opinion a lot better that the technics sl-1200 if you compare the starting times the vestax decks are faster the have more pitch control a heavier tracking weight, reverse play, and the PDX-d3s has a digital pitch display. The vestax are not the only decks that are better than technics, the numark tt-2 have got a slower starting time but in every other aspect they are better. So if you are thinking of buying some top of the range decks dont just go for the technics.... Read review
