Advantages: Good looking, does what it says, easy to get working Disadvantages: backlight comes on automatically too often
...This product is attractive and slick enough to got well with any black iPod. I bought mine to go with my black nano, with which it looks very smart.
It worked straight out of the box, which is SO relieving, and I've had no problems with it at all. The alarm is perfectly easy to set, and allows you to wake up to iPod, Radio or buzzer. iPod and Radio are the only two real options though, as the buzzer is the most ungodly noise to wake up to.
It allows you to set up to two alarms, and allows you to set the volumes for the alarms. The screen will display what alarms are set and what you will wake up to.
The Radio function has no problems with it, and works with AM and FM. The reception is good, although the FM receiver is a long wire which could get in the way and/or spoil the look.
The remote control comes with one battery which has...

Advantages: V Slim, and uses hardly any batteries Disadvantages: Sound sacrificed for batteries
.... Unlike most CD players that spins the CD the whole time, this player spins and loads about a minutes worth of music in it's memory and stops for about 40 seconds. Now in comparison for a song that is 5 minutes long, this player only spins for about 1 min. while most other players spin the whole time. Not only does it prevent skipping, it also saves batteries... Thank You SONY, you have some great engineers.
Having investigated at amazon, its priced at 80 quid, but I'm sure you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
Strengths:
Great remote, backlit is a big plus. Aluminum lid is slick, battery life is amazing. And it has NEVER skipped on me even when playing CDRs.
Weaknesses:
Bass is a little distorted and under boosted, Sony sacrificed great sound with extending the battery life....

Advantages: Big sharp clear screen, great sound quality, massive capacity, removeable battery Disadvantages: A little bulky, Ipod menu and controls slightly more intuitive, no stand or cradle
...Overivew
What can I say about this machine - it's a cracker! Like a lot of people, I waited for some time to buy a real "heavy duty" multimedia player. I didn't necessarily want to go down the Ipod route as clearly there are issues there around screen size, poor battery durability, susceptibility to scratches etc. So if, like me, you are searching for more than an MP3 player and want a machine that does many things well, then this is very close to perfect on that score.
Accessories
In the box, you get the 40GB player, audio and video cables, USB cable, AC adapter/charger, earphones and a carry pouch. The only niggles with these are, as usual, the supplied earphones are cheap sounding and won't do justice to the unit's quality. It would have been nice to get even a small plastic cradle or stand to pop it on so you need not hold...
