I am a big fan of Vicks vapo rub, I have used it for years and love the way it smells and the fact that it works really well at getting rid of my blocked nose. With my recent cold however, I haven't been able to use it as I am breastfeeding my little boy and I don't think it would be nice for him to be breathing in those vapours whilst trying to eat his dinner poor lad.

So, I needed some targeted action and after reading a few reviews on the Vicks inhaler I decided to purchase one. I bought mine from Boots and it cost me £2.49 which I didn't think was too bad. I've used it quite a bit through this cold and it still seems to be going strong so I would say it lasts for quite a while.

The inhaler is just a stick which looks a bit like a lipstick actually, and is said to offer fast relief from stuffy noses. It is incredibly easy to use and I actually prefer it now to the rub as it gets right to the point in the nose that you need it to and to where you are actually suffering which is better than the rub which you have to rely on to get into your nostrils by just breathing it.

You place the stick in one nostril and at the same time hold the other one closed. Then you just breathe and try to relax and feel the stick working its magic to try and unblock your nose. I find it takes a few breaths, especially if I have a really blocked nose before it does unblock but it does work well. After a while my nose does block up again so I would say its not an instant cure for a blocked nose but does offer relief during the day. You can use this stick as often as you like during the day and believe me, during this cold I really have. My nose hasn't suffered from any soreness or nosebleeds so for me it has been a nice cold relief.
