Advantages: Gets rid of a cold Disadvantages: Price
Vicks First Defence is AMAZING! The only product to actually get rid of a cold. I have used this several times now and every time it has worked.
You're supposed to use it when you first feel the signs of a cold coming on, which you don't always know but I have used it mid way through a bad cold and it has cleared up. I've found I have had one bad day and then the next day my cold has dissappeared. It works by drawing the cold out of you quickly so you feel really lousy for a day but it's worth it so the cold doesn't drag on for days or even weeks!
Vicks First Defence makes no claim to cure colds, or to prevent them but it does claim to reduce the chance of developing a full blown cold by up to 50% if taken promptly at the first sign of symptoms and to cut symptoms by up to 40% but each time I have used it, it has worked better ...
Advantages: Excellent effective product, easy to use. Disadvantages: Price varies greatly, so shop around.
My lovely mother bought me this product during my last case of the flu, but it works especially well for just a simple blocked nose. She purchased the 50g pot for just under £2.50, which i think is a steal for how long it lasts!

The vaporub can be used by children and adults, but i would suggest reading the instructions carefully before any applications.
The Vaporub can be either melted intohot water or simply rubbed into the chest and back, i have found that both of these methods work well, but i personally prefer melting 2 tablespoons into hot water, as it causes a little less mess!
Instructions for melting method:
-Melt 2 teaspoons of Vaporub into hot water
-Inhale medicated vapours for 10-15mins ...

Advantages: It works and it's cheap! Disadvantages: Very addictive
Vicks Sinex Decongestant Nasal Spray is a spray which you squirt up your nostrils to give "relief from a blocked nose". The spray is recommended as suitable for anyone aged over 6 years, although I wouldn't be too happy giving it to a child to use - it's the kind of thing a child might squirt up their nose every five minutes if they could and I don't think that would be very healthy! I've used the spray quite a lot of times and would recommend it, albeit with reservations.
The spray costs about £2.50 per 20ml bottle - the bottle doesn't state how many applications there are per bottle, but one bottle has seen me through several colds so I'd reckon that it probably contains several hundred squirts. According to the instructions you need to reuse every six to eight hours but on my experience the effects start to wear off within ...
