Review of Walls Viennetta Ice cream
Walls have been producing ice cream for over 80 years, Viennetta, the subject of this review, is one of their ice cream desserts.
The product
Walls Viennetta is an oblong bar shaped dessert made from Vanilla ice cream interleaved with chocolate flavoured layers. Viennetta was introduced to the UK in the early 1980's following the Unilever company's patented technology that allowed thin layers of wavy chocolate to be mixed into ice cream at high speed. The result was Viennetta.
The product is found in the freezer sections of most supermarkets and is marketed as an 'ice cream treat for those everyday celebrations'. Viennetta comes in vanilla or mint flavours. This review covers the vanilla version. We purchased this ice cream on impulse in Asda as it was on a special offer. I had eaten Viennetta in the past, but had not bought it for some time.
Packaging, taste and texture
The dessert is presented in a recyclable cardboard box bearing a picture of slices of luscious looking ice cream with swirly edges, topped with chocolate. It looks very tempting and I can understand why Viennetta is classed as an impulse purchase leader, after all, I bought it on impulse myself. The Walls heart logo is above the 'I' of the name Viennetta, nutritional, ingredient and company information appear on the rear of the box.
I was purchased our Viennetta as part of a special promotion at £1. Obviously the price will vary from supermarket to supermarket, but the average 'non special offer' cost seems to be in the region of £1.70-£1.99.
The ice cream bar is sitting on a brown plastic tray, it can be served straight from the freezer or allowed to thaw very slightly for about 10 minutes before serving. The dessert measures approximately 10 inches long by around 3 inches high. The weight is 32g/650ml. It would comfortably serve 6 people or provide 5 more generous portions.
On cutting the dessert all the chocolate layers crackle in a most satisfying fashion! Sadly they also broke apart when I cut into the ice cream, but who knows, that could have been my heavy handed cutting technique! The slices of ice cream dessert were made up of a very white vanilla ice cream. There was no discernible aroma and the ice cream appeared rather sorry looking in comparison to the illustration on the packet! Still the deciding factor with any food product has to be the taste and texture. It is at this point that the Viennetta chocolate comes into it's own! The chocolate layers are delicious, made from crispy, mouthwatering rich dark chocolate, totally gorgeous and as good as any other chocolate I've tasted. The chocolate layers and the ice cream made a very interesting dessert texture wise, with the soft ice cream and the crispy chocolate blending together to form a really distinctive dessert.
The ice cream lets this product down in my opinion. Walls are a well known ice cream maker and it was disappointing to find this ice cream so sickly sweet and bland. There was a distinct after taste which is quite hard to describe, reminiscent of cheap white chocolate.
Nutritional information
Obviously a dessert of this type is not going to be the healthiest option around and I am not going to bore readers with a list of ingredients in Viennetta, suffice to say that the product contains milk, vegetable fat, cocoa powder, sugar, guar gum and a whole host of other ingredients, some unpronounceable!
There is no allergen, vegetarian or other dietary advice on the packaging. Of course anyone with a dairy intolerance would avoid Viennetta due to the milk content, but having read through the ingredients, I can see nothing glaringly nut based or non vegetarian. I would urge people who do need to know these things to study the packaging for themselves to be on the safe side.

My thoughts and conclusion
Walls Viennetta is in my view, a big let down, it looks great, the chocolate is lovely, but I wouldn't describe it as 'ice cream treat for those everyday celebrations', as the Walls website urges. It isn't unpleasant, it is a nice enough dessert but I doubt that I'd buy it again. I think I'd prefer a good old fashioned 'Artic Roll' the next time I want an ice cream based dessert.
This ice cream is high fat and to be frank, just not worth the high calories it contains. I would only recommend this product to those with a very sweet tooth!
Advantages: great taste and fills you up! Disadvantages: calories :(
This has to be the sin of all sins for dieters. Sure chocolate is great but it doesn’t exactly last very long does it! However check out this big chunky viennetta. Heavenly strawberry creamy ice cream topped with a thin layer of dark chocolate. In the whole box there is 816 calories which isn’t really too bad (is it?). As well as having a layer on top you will find that this ice cream bar has chocolate layers inside in the middle. This ... ...really strong and the ice cream melts in your mouth. It is also decorated on the sides showing that a lot of work has been put into making it.
It comes in a 320g bar and that bar comes in a red/pink box. It is really bright and it stands out from other ice cream tubs in the freezer. It has a picture of the ice cream with real strawberries next to it. On the back you should find information on what the product is, the nutritional information and ...

Advantages: Melts in your mouth, it has ice cream AND chocolate! Disadvantages: The guilt when you discover you've eaten a whole one!!!!
...are so many varieties of Vienetta on the supermarket shelves nowadays, strawberry, mint, biscuit, plus special editions such as the Forest Fruit and Biscuit you'd be forgiven for buying them all just to try. I however have come to the conclusion that, as with so many things, the original is still the best.
Original Vienetta is simply vanilla ice cream with thin layers of chocolate on the top and bottom, and in the middle. First of all, the packaging ... ...and white cardboard box with Vienetta written on the front and sides,a picture of the ice cream, and a whole bunch of information repeated in a whole plethora of languages on the bottom. This is just the ingredients, nutritional information and the address of Walls, the company which makes Vienetta. Once you have found the English bits, you realise why they tried to hide it - per 100g you have no less than 16.4g fat and 252 calories!

Advantages: Thick, creamy, chewy, refreshing Disadvantages: Melts quickly (don't eat it slowly to savour it!); not enough of it.
Walls is probably my favourite ice cream brand as I love nearly all of the products they have to offer (magnums, Twister, solero etc). Vinetta is no exception.
I'm reviewing the mint variety, though there is the original of vanilla; I'm not aware of any other flavours - they should invent a caramel one; that would be divine!
Okay, firstly, I must point out I'm not a fan of chocolate mint so this Icecream is pretty special to impress me. It comes ... ...box (to protect it as it is very delicate). The icecream comes as a rectangular block on a brown plastic tray so that is CAN be cut into slices to erm...share? To be hoenst, I think the plastic tray makes a nice little plate for one. Simply open the packet, grab a spoon and disappear to your room and lock the door before anyone notices.
Baically, this ice cream is made of layers with rippled edges. The bottom layer is vanilla, followed by thin crisp ...

...dessert than both together.
Vienetta is made by Walls, and as you are probably aware they make great ice cream. It comes in a variety of flavours and for the purposes of this review I shall be tasting the original vanilla and chocolate one.
Vienetta comes in an oblong cream coloured box which is emblazoned with a picture of a Vienetta with a slice taken from it. It looks very much like a cake. Fancy swirls of chocolate decorate its exterior.
They ... ...find that this serves 5 people with a decent serving or 6 people with a fair serving, depending on how large your main course was. Personally I always leave room for the sweet anyway LOL.
Once cut into portions you can see the crispy chocolate intermingled with the vanilla ice cream. The taste is simply delicious as the chocolate and ice cream blend together. Initially it's the ice cream that is predominant, it's sweet but not too sweet and you ...

Advantages: Tastes lovely, quite cheap, holds its shape Disadvantages: none
...My mum started to but Vienetta Ice CReam a few years ago when I was young, and when I had friends around for tea she would serve this up as a special treat. We have it about every other weekend now, usually after our Sunday lunch. Gran comes over and mum shares it between the five of us but it doesn't go far so sometimes we open a second one.
Gran has problems eating them though, as ice cream doesn't always agree with her, not just Vienetta, but ... ...bit common and that they are as classy as an ice cream swiss log (I'v enever ad one of these yet), but I think Vienetta is the best frozen ice cream dessert in the worls. Try it soon and you'll see what I mean.
Thank you for reading. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Vienetta Ice Cream"
Advantages: Good price, nice chicken. Disadvantages: Chips are normally nasty, long queues, dirty tables to sit on.
the right blend without being too over-powering, it has this delicious taste to it that just makes me want to go back for more time and time again!
The chips are a real disappointment though and are pretty similar to McDonalds chips in that they are either over-salted, cold or both! But then I am enjoying the chicken and the corn on the cob too much to care about some cold chips!
Another speciality of KFC is the bargain bucket and this is normally around £10 for which you will receive 8 pieces of chicken (cuts may vary), 4 chips and normally two side orders. There are different variations of the bucket meals and you might also get boneless chicken, popcorn chicken, mini fillet burgers, bottles of drink or even desserts such as vienetta and icecream etc.
You can sit down or take away your food to eat wherever you feel like it. In my ...

Advantages: great taste Disadvantages: a little more variety may be needed
I am going to get straight to it, KFC is great! The food is gorgeous, and the service is amazing.
I am a regular visitor of KFC and i usually buy one of their burger meals for £3.49, which sound expensive but it it is not, because the burger that you get is a lot bigger than an mcdonalds burger (and it tastes better too.
KFC has a wide variety of meal deals for the family, if you just want chicken an chips for the family, then you can buy a bucket meal with 6,10 or even 14 peices of chicken*(ranging from 7.49 to 12.99)! But if you want a meal accompanied by some other things then the feasts are for you. The family feast comes with 8 or 12 peices of chicken, 4 fries, a 200ml tub of BBQ beans, a 200ml tub of coleslaw (or if you want you can change these to their chicken gravy) and either a vienettaicecream or a bottle of drink as ...

Crispy chocolate sandwiched between vanilla icecream. How can you resist? I can't that's my problem.
A dessert of Vienetta weighs 320g. Each 100g contains 255 calories. Very very naughty, but I still can't say no.
I currently have two in my freezer, as they were on offer at the weekend, and somehow there is still some left.
Original Vienetta, in my opinion is the best of the range, but you can also buy it in Mint, biscuit, lemon, and chocolate flavours.
Ingredients:
concentrated skimmed milk
chocolate flavour coating
sugar
vegetable fat
whey solids
glucose
emulsifier
stabiliser
vegetable fat
coloring
Quite disgusting when you think about all those ingredients mashed together, but it is the complete opposite. Creaminess fills your mouth, and the crunch of chocolate ...
