When I ordered my new computer it came with a Flat Screen CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) monitor as part of the package . The dealer was not willing to upgrade the package to LCD/TFT(Liquid Crystal Dispay Thin Technology) so I had fully intended to sell the monitor 'a new' and to substitute with the largest LCD/TFT that I could afford. In fact a large national store had 17" LCD/TFT made by a reputable manufacturer and available at a very good price. I purchased one of these monitors and with great anticipation connected it up to my computer. When using text the image was sharp and clear and the extra space on the desk was a real boon but when using anything with moving images in colour ,the advantages seemed to disappear. DVDs and computer games with intense colours and rapid movement did not have a top quality image on the LCD/TFT screen. There did seem to be a distinct lack of depth of colour and the movement was spoiled by the merest hint of a shadow on the screen. I disappointedly returned the LCD/TFT and got a refund.....Next plug in the Viewsonic Ultrabrite E70f+ and what a difference!!!!! ........Bright ,Sharp image with intense colours . This meant that the traditional disadvantage of CRTs ie flicker was totally unnoticed. The Quality of the image made up for the disadvantage of the increased size of the monitor
In the end I kept the Viewsonic E70F+ monitor and have not regretted my decision for one moment. The technical specification of the monitor is such that the quality of the image is remarkable
The E70f+SB monitor combines ViewSonic's PerfectFlat screen with high-brightness UltraBrite technology for exceptional performance and excellent value. UltraBrite CRT enables applications such as Games, TV and DVDs to come alive with rich, saturated colour and vivid contrast. Precise definition and photo realistic image quality boost 3-D video .With an ultra-fine 0.21mm horizontal dot pitch, 1024x768 optimum resolution and features like OSD lock and OnView controls, the stylish metallic on black E70f+SB is a solid choice..
I made my choice by comparing the two types of monitor directly and I am very happy 'that I got it right' Best of all the money saved can be put to alternative good uses. By the time that the 3 Year warranty expires technology will have moved on.
If you are pushed for space then your choice is limeted by other factors. If not then at least 'test drive' the two systems before you make a decision.Certainly the Viewsonic Ultrabrite E70f+ is a star performer if you choose a CRT system and in it's silver and black livery it's 'Dead Smart' on any desk.
