I bought this monitor as a replacement for my aging 14 inch EM monitor. The original monitor was starting to lose picture elements and, in my opinion, was too small. I looked a several monitors between seventeen inch and nineteen inch and settled on the VeiwSonic. The choice of a seventeen inch monitor was one of space as I haven't the room to fit a nineteen inch monitor in. I chose ViewSonic because of recommends and I'm glad I did.
The monitor is capable of resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 but looks best for Windows in 1024 x 768. At 1280 x 1024 the desktop can look a little shaky and the text just too much on the small side to read with ease. At 1024 x 768 the desktop looks just fine with plenty of room to store all those icons that seem to clutter up this place.
The controls for this monitor are four buttons on the front, one for menu select, two to scroll up and down in the menu and one to select the option. The menu contains options to alter brightness and contrast, adjust size and position, degauss, color match and some trim options.
This monitor supports the power save option now built into the latest Windows operating system that switches off the monitor after a set period of time has elapsed. This ensures that the phosphor doesn't get damaged as a result of burn in. The monitor also degausses every time it is powered up so that the picture is as pure as it can be.
