This is my review for the View SonicVA703b. I have been using this monitor now for close to 2 years and I have no problems with it.
Instead of just being compatible with VGA it also works with the new(ish) DVI at the same time.
It is an alright 17". This is OK if you want it for office work but if you want it for games, videos and pictures it is good but you would be better off with a 19" or bigger. I do play games on it and it still works quite well. What is more important to games is the reaction time.
It has really good reaction time and this is the reason why I got it. At a very low 8ms (mili seconds) it just gives a clear image every time.
I delighted to find out that it is compatible with vista.
It has 1280x1024 native resolution that delivers incredible image detail for sharp text and graphics.
It has a high brightness and contrast. The brightness is 280-nit usually. The contrast ratio is 600:1 and that gives detailed images.
The monitor does not use up a lot of desk space, as it is very slim. I find this great as I can use it and do paper work without being crammed in.
I was happy that the monitor came with the set up disks and that they were automated. This made setting up my monitor even easier.
Now setup, it took about 5 minutes and I have not been forced to reinstall drivers or start again in 2 years. I didn't even need to do the setup with my old monitor. I just plugged this one in and put in the disc.
Not only is it compatible with Windows PC's it is also compatible with Mac's. I am thinking about buying a Mac at the moment and if I get the Mac mini I will only have to buy a switch not a monitor.
It qualifies for the TCO'03 and ENERGY STAR® awards. This means that it is energy efficient.
The detailed sizes look like this 13.3" horizontal x 10.6" vertical; 17.0" diagonal. |It is not the biggest but then again, not the smallest monitor.
The light source is a long life and lasts for 50 000 hours.
I was relived when I found out that it is anti-glare. Meaning that it is not supposed to glare in the sun or other light source.
It plugs in with a standard 13 Amp lead that you use for your desktopcomputer or possibly your kettle. Those are just a few examples.
It is really simple and only has five buttons. These are as follows: power, 1, 2, up and down.
These are the physical dimensions are 379mm x 400mm x 210mm. This, I find, is quite compact.
It is, however, quite heavy. It weighs 7kg but that is OK as it just its there and you don't really have to touch it at all.
It comes with a huge three-year warranty as standard. That is how confident View Sonic are that you will love this product.
I got my one 2 years ago for around £200 but I have seen them on ebuyer for around £130. This monitor is really good value.
So, my recommendations, well I would recommend this to anyone really. It is a nice size so you can quite easily watch a DVD or play a game on it. It is also good for doing office work on. So as I sit here making this review with it I would be quite happy to give it my full endorsement.
